Nah that is poor point as likes of you made out Salah would go in 2023 as they wouldnt break a structure for him that claimed was in place.

What did I claim? Mane would be offered a lot less and be more likely to leave.. while they would break the structure to sign Salah to larger contract.

Some knew the situation... some thought Salah couldnt possibly be signed up as there was a super duper wage structure in place.

It's not as simple as that.
He is not legally obliged, but at the same time some things happened:
1) club got bankrupt
2) there has been elections, there has been a new administration
3) the new administration has made it clear there is a new wage structure in which no player gets more than 10m net / year
4) they have shifted every squad member towards their new wage structure, new signings included

All that means that it's not as simple as 'being legally obliged' to do X
It's not as if Barto is still around and these contracts are being handed to everyone
He will be forced to do it, not legally but pragmatically.
He can't whistle around indifferently for long, the pressure on him will be huge in a few weeks

And if you look the players the club wanted to move (and Could be moved) due to their wages, ALL got moved in the end.
Suarez out, Rakitic out, Griezman out, Coutinho out, Messi out (even if they said they wanted him to renew), Dembele out
The same route will take Frenkie if he doesn't reduce his salary

Tbf, guy is on Instagram liking every Barca post. He learned Spanish and embraced the culture and Barcelona way of life. Can't really ask for a more professional player and seems like a genuinie(even a bit naive?) guy.

It's bad that things are turning out like this, probably nobody thought he would flop here.

They can't make him leave so they went public first with a story how hard it would be to keep him and that he can stay if he lowers his salary. Later they leaked his salary.

On paper, they can't force him to lower it and they won't bench him but he's not Xavi's priority (unlike Dembele) and isn't an absolute necessity (again unlike Dembele). That's why he is the one being pushed out on top of him being Barca's highest earner. If he refuses to leave AND to lower his salary he'll lose the support from fans and might have a minor role in the squad. Not something a player of his age would or should want.

On the other hand, this narrative about his unquestionable love for the club is the most annoying thing. What's not to like for fucks sake? Lives in a wonderful city, has wages way above his worth, no club with better sporting prospects is in for him as odd as that sounds. These are the reasons he wants to stay, not some alleged love for the club which is pointless to mention.

He has been good for most part and best mid across his three years at club overall just never had role that suits him fully.

Unfortunately, De Jong really doesn't have much going for him except being a nice guy. As an investment and cost-benefit ratio, he's failing to meet the expectations.

Now, if he somehow starts the season playing great football and keeps it up like the world-class players do, fair play, but I don't think he's really that good of a player for an elite club. His level always drops off after great games. None of the Ajax youngsters really confirmed, and all played their best football under low expectations 3 years ago. The consistency of a top-class player is missing with the former Ajax youngsters.

Ball in his court. He can stay, and decline all offers, but then if he doesn't show the level we made a big investment for, he kind of gets into flop territory like the other leechers we had under Bartomeu.

To be honest I think both those teams are too far ahead. Two elite managers who until they are gone will keep their sides on another level to the rest.

However, as a club Chelsea are more competitive for trophies than United and much more well positioned to consistently get top 4.
