Xavi didn?t play him due to his high salary. Then fans and media started questioning Xavi and bam! Guess who starts playing more?

De Jong should clearly play instead of Biscuits, who is a fossil at this point.

He's undoubtedly our best midfielder, but I get Xavi's thought process. Gavi and Pedri are vastly superior at pressing and that's what we aimed for in the beginning.

Now we are more pragmatic again.

Has been clearly best since came back into line up and was best across other years at club also on average.

Gavi and Pedri are not better at pressing than FDJ.. what a bizarre claim that is.

Midfield gets over run far too often when it is Pedri, Busi and Gavi as opposed to FDJ in there ahead of Pedri/Gavilet alone Busquets.

FDJ is by far the better athlete and ability to press. He is only one in his prime years physically and it shows.

Frenkie is more vertical (down to his athleticism). Pedri and Gavi are more mobile in smaller spaces and hence better at pressing. It's a matter of style and pragmatism.

Not touching the Busquets topic.

No they are not even close to being better pressers of the ball and teams cut through the side far too easily when FDJ is out for one of the three.

They are not more mobile either. FDJ will get to ball and read it quicker in close stuations than those other two and can sustain it longer in games which in part his due to his age.

If Xavi was picking them with that belief it is worse than thought.

Gavi will go flying in when doesnt need to often and can result in crunching tackles or him being dribbled past or ball passed him too often. He has enthusiasm in bounds but it does make for great pressing and team is harder to go through middle of park against when FDJ there.

Well, Frenkie is better at running back ;)

Agree to disagree about the rest.

He is more mobile than Pedri or Gavi in short spaces also and can maintain it across the game to higer level in part due to age.

Quicker than both also.

Can see how much easier it is for opposition to beat press and physically get better of midfield when he is not there.

Gavi doesnt really even understand how and when to press at moment and is still learning. Gets drawn in too often and chasing anything that moves. Pedri is better than him at that.

Part of pressing is understanding when to do it.

MOTM. Carried the midfield in the 1st half, did great at CB and made that pinging pass for the goal. Great game.

Was decisive with that great pass for the winning goal.

Overall, his passing isn't anywhere as tidy as Busquets.
Hasn't shown himself to be good enough as a lone DM or a creative enough CM.

Put some respeck on his name. Always liked the kid in spite of his shortcomings, reliable anywhere you put him.

Would have been a huge mistake to get rid of him.
