Frenkie de Jong

Just analysing the trend in minutes given my man.

Went from late game minutes, to playing half, to starting and getting subbed off, to playing almost full game yesterday. Not how would managed if not have plans for him.

He definitely has a place in the team, we can't play casado and pedri every game, so he was always going to get more involved as the season progresses.

I don't know how you take that and leap to that flick likes him more than casado, that's my question.

Flick likes Olmo more than Torres. Which is why he became a permanent starter the moment he was available.

Last four games...

On HT when Casado struggling. Plays better than Casado.
Starts v Betis as win 5-1. Plays very well.
On at 60 mins with Casado struggling and team 3-1 down. Plays well as team improve and come back to win 5-4.
Starts v Valencia. Scores opener. Plays very well as win 7-1.

Who Flick prefer is largely irrelevant.. I would say at this point he likes both and knows if FDJ fully fit is with Pedris Barcas best midfielder technically and can cover a few roles... as long as not scared of that ankle.

While he also appreciates Casado although not been too happy with some of his games recently and probably loved him again yesterday.

Proving doubters wrong as expected.

Well done.
Being a useful player is not enough.

The slack he gets is very much due to what he earns.
He is #7 in Liga salary list, does he actually deserve that from what he's shown on the pitch? People will always demand more from players who earn a lot. Same goes for Lewy.

You're welcome

Did I say like? Have to go back and on that first.

But I would imagine Flick rates Frenkie higher than Casado.

Think for Flick also important to have players with experience of Frenkie for balance. Also technically one of most gifted on team.
Also figure Flick thinks Frenkie will perform at a higher level once fully fit and adapted to system than what is already shown. Will also expect to be more consistent player between two.

Love Casado. But only 21 still and fully learning.

His salary is around 15m a season on his contract.. not absurd.

Part of the issue is the amount of folk that think he earns a lot more.

Laporta could have regularised his contract when came in.. he clearly would have accepted it.. they didnt as the reality is they benefited from the contract as structured at the time and then moan about it when it is to get paid up.

Barca gave Gundo more and are still paying him this season to play eleswhere. Lewa is on close to double this season than FDJ. Fati is not far off the annual salary either.

It is a shame that they created bad blood as their could be ways to structure a contract now that benefits the club and doesnt impact FDJ with allowing both easy way out in 2026 but to reduce cost on books this next season and a half.

Yes they are part of the point. None of the three do enough to warrant the money. Frenkie is on 19m this season reportedly.

Imagine how much we open up if we can scratch those three, without too much damage to the XI. Bigger upside.

He is on 15 really and 4m deferred. You cant ignore the leeway his contract gave Laporta when first came in and only look at it when it is to be evened up.

I dont think FDJ and his agent will allow Barca to cash in on nearly the way they would want to either.

Wouldnt be against them using the money if could get a proper DM in to play beside Pedri. But dont think Casado is it or will be long term. Him and Pedri together are not as good as made out.

FDJ could get a good move and suit both.

Not his fault he's on that contract so we shouldn't blame him.

Im not sure what the incentives are but if he and the other big earners (minus Fati cause my dawg needs to leave) help us win trophies this season. With the form we're in if we can stay consistent in the league a double or a treble (IF we're counting the super copa we can win up to 4 trophies pretty realistically). I feel like that sort of success will balance alot of things out numbers wise to the point that we'll be fine. We're already at 1:1 anyway.

The only problem on the squad I see finances wise is Ansu. Love the guy and wish him success but there's no way we can let him be on the squad past the summer. I rather have his spot / salary go to someone with a body that doesn't seem like its been broken beyond repair

Good news if his wages are reduced to normality, otherwise shit news

He's a great player who can help us in many different ways. Now he has competition in the midfield so if he doesn't perform he can be a bench option, still fair
