It's all Messi's fault. He slows our play down, makes our attackers lose confidence and our defenders play worse. Obviously.

Yep, brilliant. Pedro and Villa completely different when given the freedom to overlap in the center. Granted, this is a friendly and the players are well rested, but Spain is an entire team effort. No Messi walking around up front with Villa and Pedro instructed to hug the sidelines. You can't play fast fluid tiki-taka with a fence post. Messi will only run when he helps start a move back in the midfield, and wants to get the ball back with 1-2 passing up the middle. Then he's back to walking. Spain never stops moving, EVERYone is always in motion. Messi is a fantastic footballer, but there is no question Barça has to slow down and work further back on the pitch to accommodate his playing style.
