his days are numbered, I reckon. especially with Abidal playing so well at CB.

Said we should have sold him in the summer, would have gotten more money for him then, with clubs thinking he was over his injuries and he had a good season, but i doubt he will leave

I think it's for the best since he deserves more play time if physically able to (he will never be what he once was though :(), but Abidal as our first choice backup CB still scares the shit out of me.

God forbid Pique gets a freak injury, a Puyol-Abidal defensive pairing has "AHHHHHHHH" written all over it.

he wants to play in the Copa America, and fair play to him I hope he makes the squad. I hold no grudges against him, I just knew he'd be gone once Abidal proved competent at CB.

so does Puyol-Milito.

without Chygrynskiy in the squad, any defensive partnership without Piqué has a sense of "AAHHHHHHHHHHHHH" written all over it.

but it's cool. Busquets can be used as a CB if Piqué goes down. I reckon he could handle it.

but hopefully Piqué won't go down.

we'll see.

I mean the priority defensively should be more backup for Puyol anyway, while the loss of the Chyg and Rafa means we have a tragic lack of liberos, Pique is pretty much locked in as a starter for the next decade. I think Abidal has done a very respectable job this year in the middle but I still don't like him as a CB in more than small doses.

That article is really believable except for that part where he got mad because he dint start against Levante, after all he wasn't fully fit and only passed the fitness test in the last minute... Also dont think he'd really believe the emergence of Fontas would hinder his chances. I mean he's a fan-favorite, has such good rapo with his team-mates... Pep would obviously not fuck with him and hurry a youngster ahead of him if he's showing that ambition of his in the training grounds!!

Dont agree with the idea of selling him and not buying any replacement either. Sure Abidal is doing well at CB, but he's also playing really awesome in his natural position and he would definitely be played a starter there.. . If we dont have a third CB to rotate with Pique, Puyol and him we'd end up burning out all three of them by the time this season reaches the critical stage!!

the replacement for Puyol will come from La Masia. you can't import what Puyol gives us. Fontás, Bartra, Gomez... one of them will do it.

I don't mind Abidal as a CB, especially at home where his pace covers our high-line superbly. and really, alongside Piqué, I don't think he'd even be THAT bad away. what we miss is his solidity at LB, because Maxwell can be got at. would like us to either get Sakho (beeeaaaassssttttt) or look to promote Muniesa in the long-term.

There will never be another Puyol, in or out of la masia. You can't replicate that, he's greater than the sum of his parts. But there's no shame in looking at athletic stoppers who actually have some skill just in case. It ain't an emergency though, our system has the talent even though I think defender development is a lot more unpredictable than offensive talent.

Pep kind of confirmed Milito did ask the club that he wants to leave... WOW! And the club said they are not intent on any more winter signings during Afellay's presentation!! I hope we won't go for a panic signing and waste some more money. It's probably a wise idea to activate Botia's clause, but is he ready to come to us already?

The club will allow Milito to leave this month, they don't want forced labor. Backing up the CB starters, the club likes Busquets and Fontas on the lright, Abidal and Bartra on the left. Pep likes Maxwell to play a lot at left fullback, likes Alves out there all the time at RB, I think Adriano will only be for emergency backup at both corner back spots.

If Genoa ends up being his destination, pencil him into Inter's starting CB slot for 2012 since they are effectively a feeder club for the Nerrazurri

I dont think that he will leave this month, more likely to happen in the summer and its quite weird that from Since Yesterday he has been linked with Genoa-Juve-Independente in less than 24h,if it happen this january then it will be on loan, anyway Pep Today
I've heard that Milito has asked the club to leave. I want him to stay but it will be exclusively his decision."
Not sure what will happen if he leaves,Abidal is great but we dont have a right footed centreback(even if he stays) so I guess we shall either Recall Botia(Unlikely) or Sign another centreback(most options are expensive) or Settle for Busquets-Bartra-Fotas(more likely to happen)
