Let's get a thread started for this little nugget. Deco's bet for DMC. We probably won't end up signing him because, economics, but the Catalan rags are going to be running stories about him almost daily like they did with Vitor Roque.

Cliffs
----------
-Deco's bet for DMC

-17 year old starting DMC for Corinthians
-Turns 18 before Winter market so can potentially move in Jan
-Chelsea interested, but had 2 bids rejected
-Follows Barcelona and Vitor Roque on Instagram

-Doesn't follow Chelsea.

Now, given Xavi won out and got his options for DMC (Oriol Romeu) and RB (Joao Cancelo) I think that if the money is available that Laporta may give Deco the ball for the future DMC option. We can't really go and let Xavi sign someone like Guido after betting on Oriol (ahead of Guido) and then realising Oriol is not the best biscuit.

Hmmm, same age and cost of someone like Arthur Vermeeren, younger but double/triple the cost of F.Diaz.
More importantly when you compare him to La Masia kids:
Just few months older than Pau Prim, but 20 months (almost 2 years) older than M.Bernal.
The club has to really believe in him, and how ready he is for 1st team, to go after him tbh.

Agreed.

I was disappointed we didn't close Andrey because he was an opportunity. Fabricio Diaz I was leaning the same, but added a bit of caution as to why he hasn't closed with any top team yet. Exequiel Palacios was similarly hotly linked to Us and Real, and ended up a season later at Leverkusen.

This kid won't be cheap comparatively.

I'm enjoying Bernal at B so far this season who looks to have quite a bit of potential so not too hot on this potential move for now. Will watch some Corinthians after the break though to see how this kid is over 90. He may very well be the real deal.

But what is clear so far is that we are getting an idea of what Deco is like as an SD.

So far his names this window that we know about are
Fresneda (18), Moscardo (17), Arda Guler (18), Florentino Luis (24)

It is a bit of a freshman SD approach of looking for youth and potential, which has higher odds of not working out. His eye will and judgement will have to be sharper than the likes of Chelsea because we don't have the finances to miss as much.

Abidal was similar, favouring youth and his countrymen, and it ended up more bad than good. Deco will have to be careful not to fall into the same trap.

Yeah.
The way I see it is like this:

A- Early signs, but it seems that Bernal is the chosen one from next generation of La Masia CDM. but at 16 and playing such position ge won't be in 1st team before 2 years, even if we tried to speed the process.

B-We have a clear need for an upgrade in CDM, Romeu won't cut it

C- We are unlikely to have money to pay for someone ready to make immediate & sure impact. Zubimendi would cost 60M+ which look like a bargain in the current market. There is no short term CDM available either.

So what is our options?
Do we sell players to fund Zubimendi?
Do we bet on youth? And in such case do that with Bernal or a purchase?

There is no clear answer tbh, other than the generic and generalised "we need to have a sharp eye for talent "
We simply can't afford to miss on Moscardo if he is the real deal, and we can't afford to get him if he is anything less

Good post.

The key question is how do we know Moscardo is the real deal and whether he is worth the 30m bet. Compared to someone like Roque who had 2 seasons of top division performance before signing him, Moscardo has just 500 minutes. And with 500 minutes in the top level, clubs like RedBull Leipzig thought that Ilaix was the real deal.

There is also an option D, which is go for a high potential option but also stick to our budget (whatever that is) while we go with what we got for now.

-Alan Varela -> 8m -> Porto
-Maxime Perrone -> 11m -> City
-Ugarte -> 12.5m -> Sporting
-Andrey Santos -> 12.5 -> Chelsea (prob doesn't end up DMC admittedly)

This is a fraction of the DMC we have been linked to other the past few years. So when the transfer funds open up again (should have acquired one during the 22/23 splurge though) we just have to be a little more proactive on medium term options.

Pau Prim is not happening. Looks like a generic, average Spanish talent. F. Diaz is alright, but he's not a positional DM. So rather irrelevant for us right now. I like Bernal, but when you watch him for a second its pretty obvious to see he needs another 2-3 years to develop physically.

Moscardo - as Porque said - has only 500 minutes in first division football, so obviously a big gamble, but he looks like he can play there already. He hits that sweet spot for me where he's physically good enough at 17-19 to get serious first team minutes.

Would take the gamble.

Bernal is about the most physically developed 16 yr old will see in Barca.

Obviously not ready for first team at this stage but physically he doesnt lack other than he may still be getting used to his game at that size.

Doubt they go for Moscardo when Xavi will want Zubimendi and have likes of Bernal they will want to show path way to.

Also not sure why Mosardo would make the move when cant take next stage while getting first team football and develop.

But he does look good on those clips.

Who would you compare him with? Is he more a Casemiro or a Busquets (I know he's somewhere in between but where?)
