You have to admire it though, selling a player for twice his value, strengthening his team in the process while not overpaying, and stopping any rivals picking up the pieces of what's left. Should not use it as an excuse though, both my club and your club have had 2 months to strengthen, it should not matter what others do.

Cautious Real Madrid hope to present new signing Gareth Bale by Tuesday

The stage at the Santiago Bernabéu was dismantled today without Gareth Bale having set foot on it. Real Madrid face Athletic Bilbao in the stadium on Sunday morning with the Welshman's move agreed between Tottenham and the Spanish club but still not officially signed off. Until that happens, there is caution – publicly, at least. Madrid hope to be able to make the deal official in time to present him before he reports for international duty with Wales on Tuesday.

sky sports news reporting it will be announced this afternoon for a world record fee after it was 'verbally agreed' late last night.

The transfer window is closed, right? Do they only need a verbal agreement?

AVB confirmed he signed for rm on his press post-game. He should be announced today.
