There are fans that believe the likes of Pique, Messi, Busi etc that shouldn't be criticized because what they accomplished for us.

Pique is especially worse for this when he was getting folded like a lawn chair early on last season which cost us goals, you had people going "Derp still our best CB and shouldn't be benched" even though he was one of if not the biggest reasons we were conceding goals.

Football isn't on his mind as much as it once was and It's mostly Tennis and some of his business ventures and his aspirations to be president. Despite that, he will still get leeway for his poor performances by a good segment of the fanbase and the club.

He gets leeway because last season he did well performance-wise. Better than anyone in our backline, bar Alba.

Better in general than Rakitic, Busi, Coutinho and Suarez.

Oh he definitely cares. He has been more animated on the sidelines than ever, which is surprising considering he must know how much the fans hate him.

Regarding Gerards supposed leeway - he and Vvd were the best 2 centre backs in the world last year by a country mile. You tend not to get criticised when you are delivering 8 out of 10 performances every week. Is he good enough to win an9ther CL? Thats a different matter.
