Gerardo "Tata" Martino

:coffee: Love this thread.

Give the guy a break. After the season there'll be plenty of time to judge and scrutinize. It always looks easy from sitting @ home. We can win the 2nd leg, the league is in our hands, and we have the CDR final to play for.

Yeah i was right. He started with 4 midfielders and we had no space. Cesc subbed off and we looked a completely different team. Barca deserves a coach with balls.
So stubborn it seems like Tito 2.0

If he starts Cesc in a big game again he should be sacked.
How can fans blame Tata for the starting line up which we beat Real and Man City x 2 with? As a consistent man and coach Martino suppose to start with the same line up. After that lucky goal from Diego he made the right subs and the tings improve well.I believe again as a consistent man and a coach he will start Alexis instead of Fabre in the second leg.

Tata needs to adapt to the situation. He should have brought Alexis on earlier. Or better yet, started him instead of Cesc.

Because different situations call for different line-ups. We'd already played Atlético 3 times this season and he should've known better than to use the same line-up against all big teams no matter what kind of football they play.

I think he got his tactics really wrong this time. I'm not gonna be hard on him though, he has exceeded my expectations so far this season.

Tactics means adapting and selecting your team based on the opponent, conditions etc. Tata either seems to have no sense of tactics or he is scared of benching players. City and Madrid are teams which would fight us for possession. Hence an extra midfielder might help. But Atletico would voluntarily cede possession. What we needed vs them was width to stretch them (or a no 9 which we don't have). Hence we were toothless until the subs.

If selecting the same team consisting of the big names is all what's required of a barca manager these days, I bet more than half of the the forum can do it easily at a fraction of the price.

The four man midfield worked against City twice and against Madrid. I say it would be necessary if we ever faced Bayern, PSG or even Dortmund too (haven't watched them this season).

Against a team like Atletico, starting with 4 man midfield was a mistake like many of us expected. Atletico was always going to sit deep, and we were always going to control the ball anyway. If we get through this stage, and end up facing Chelsea, I hope we don't go with this formation.

Bottom line is, it's tactics. They work for some teams, not all. Expecting the same result for every game is wrong and Tata should have known that.

I expect him to field the same lineup vs Atletico in the away leg!
The exact same way

His tactics have been fine with the exception of clasico and this game. Neymar shouldn't have played real and cesc shouldn't have played atletico.

Also even if tactics are good you might still come up shirt against atleticos bus. One of the best buses I have ever seen.

This is Barcelona, not Atletico...5 straight without victory against the same opponent is the sign of someone without answers

Same tactics teams have been using since 2011 by the way. If great teams do it, like Atlético, it pays off. They just park the bus and hope to score from one of their inevitable chances. Not sure if it's Tata's fault although in hindsight he did made mistakes like playing Neymar RW and playing Cesc for so long.

By the way:
Barcaforum: "Let's give Tata a summer to make his own signings, then we'll see."
Fifa: :pep:
