Barcelona coach Tata Martino (51) already decided months ago to use a clause in his contract allowing him leave the club in the summer. [md]

I think this will open doors for him now and he'll go on to have prominent positions at other clubs.

Either way, glad he's leaving.

Anyone remember a certain Frank Rijkaard? Well he won a CL and 2 La Liga titles. Despite being a very good coach he could not do anything to prevent a meltdown in his last season. It wasn't his fault-IT WAS THE PLAYERS FAULT!

STOP BLAMING TATA! Everyone knew the squad lacked depth, balance and motivation. This was obvious to anyone who had seen the previous 2 seasons. Pep left and he knew it.

If Tata is to blame for anything it is being a 'YES' man. He didn't have the strength and belief to stick to his guns and was too sensitive to outside influences eg Press & Player power eg Xavi, Messi. AFter the Rayo win he received a barrage of bad press DESPITE WINNING 4-0!!! The press whinged about him changing Barca's style and then the 'Don" Xavi decided to have a 'meeting' with him. All of the midfielders wanted playing time and Tata's rotation was not popular with the. Add to that the board supported the players and cut the ground out beneath the coach and the dye was cast. So Tata lost authority and the players have since trained and played as they want. Messi is also a culprit as he's sulking since he was played out of position a couple of times.

Add to that the constant scandals off the field and its clear Tata just wants to collect his paycheque and leave. This has turned into a Chelsea like situation where the tail wags the horse instead of vice versa.

Pure Tiki Taka requires relentless pressing and unreal fitness. When Pep was here we had that for his first 3 seasons. In his last season though pressing became more irregular. In Tito's season it went down further. This bunch of players simply don't have "IT" anymore. IT is the will, the motivation, the drive to press hard.

You can bring De Boer, Lucho, Valverde-any tiki taka coach and he will not change anything. Maybe we may see a few glimpses of the old Barca like we did at the beginning of the season with Tata. BUT it wont be sustained. The players will lapse into mediocriety again and then the fans will scream for the coach's blood.

When asked about the future of the team, Martino said that “we have to derive strength where there is none. We have the obligation to continue fighting until the final moment” and he went on to analyse how his team performed: “Barça have a way of playing that is hard to modify. There are no long balls for a pure number nine, we’re a team that passes the ball, elaborates plays and when we aren’t precise in finding space the game becomes uncomfortable for us. When we don’t score first things get complicated.”

Why are people whining about this? Its the absolute truth. We only have one way to play. Even at our peak we couldn't break down Chelsea (2009) and Inter 2010.

If the club doesn't evolve we will end up like Arsenal-all foreplay and no sex. We will continue to flatter to deceive. Sack the board, clear out a whole bunch of players and get a new coach. Promote some of the youngsters but it will still take time. There is no guarantee even this will work. We could still end up like Arsenal.

We are at the crossroads at the moment. What happens next season will determine what happens in the next 5 seasons. If our youngsters see the club in disarray they may opt to play somewhere else. It will also be hard to attract other players at this rate provided we can sign them in the first place.

1) We're never going to end up like Arsenal. We are a much bigger club and have far more depth in infrastructure. Our management system is completely different to Arsenal's and we can attract far better players. that's not even debatable.

2) There is more to the problem than Tata, but Tata is a BIG part of the problem. He needs to go, that's it. If you can't motivate your players you have to leave. Barca need to clear out players, yes, but the nucleus of the team will still be there in Messi, Iniesta, Busquets and at times Xavi. Valdes, Puyol, Dani, Song, Affelay, Cuenca, Tello etc..will all leave. When it comes down to it, as a manager, you have to motivate and inspire your team to play. Tata failed terribly at this. He is to blame for that and he has to go due to the results he has had over the past week.

3) It is extremely unfair to assume that a new coach wont bring new ideas and new philosophies to the club. You need to have some faith, if we followed that sort ideology we would have never bought in Pep.

Arsenal biggest problem is Wenger's cheapness and a fixation with the fourth spot. We have a bunch of crooks in our boardroom and who seemingly dont care about the team.

I am sorry but I disagree. It is this kind of complacency and arrogance which has led to our current mess. If the board, players, socis, fans continue to have this attitude we will struggle to qualify for the CL-just like Arsenal.

I think Xavi's meeting had a huge negative impact. The team has the weapons to have amazing counter attacks but Xavi forbids it. He'd rather the team lose with 75% possession. Tata did great in the first half of the season even without Messi and then in January we reverted back to Titos system plus crossing.

And that's what makes Barca work. Our boardroom is facing a huge uproar, one they cannot sustain if they can't turn this around. As bad as the board is...the whole situation didn't turn chaotic until this year (4 years into their term). If we had 4 years of complete and utter shit results like Arsenal, I would agree we are going along their path.

Thing is we are not.

Yeah, because there are so many other teams in La Liga other than Real Madrid with the infrastructure and finances to keep us out of CL qualification in the long run.

Very true. Cesc, Neymar, Alexis were doing great. Tata was playing a style which suited them. This put Xavi's nose out of joint and he demanded a change. I am sure the board supported him and after that Martino has been a dead man walking.

In Rijkaard's first season we were in the UEFA cup and were eliminated by Celtic.

Random press statements do not, not even in the slightest, represent the actual thought process of the person making the statement, especially when it's a coach making the statement.

What was he supposed to say ? Something like, "Teams compress space between the lines with two closely staggered rows of 4 and our off the ball movement is too slow, our positioning too rigid and the Barca playing routine of look-pass-move-look-receive is severy hindered in the final third because of that. We also fail to create a web of covering shadows in our midfield pressing and gegenpressing efforts." And then spend two hours explaining this.

Statements, like the on Tata has made, are deliberately aimed at the lowest common denominator of the target audience.

Tata has his flaws, but he's not braindead.

:worthy: Finally someone who thinks that pressers are just shit the coach has to do after a bad result. He can't go on an say I wanted to sell the dead weight and holy cows and instill my ideas but these stubborn asses wont do as I say. You guys even think for a second how bad it would look for a coach to criticize his team openly
