Gonzalo Higuain

Oh that was in club form btw, not counting what they may be doing in this WC as Torres and Rooney have not been on form

Well it's just my opinion though, I'm still pretty damn happy with his performance for the Argentina squad regardless :) And at RM he scored more than Ronaldo this past season (although Ronaldo missed a few due to injury but even if that didn't happen he would still at least match him)... he is definitely up there but I wouldn't put him in my top 5.

and you are right he doesn't fit the Barca model but that doesn't hurt my evaluation of him if that's what you were saying? I hate half the people I rated in front of him but I'm not being biased and just going by what I see

Well true it can be debated what position a player like Messi really is, he can work both as a forward and midfielder as we have obviously seen but I still include him in those lists.

Anyway I wish Higuain good luck v Germany, hope he keeps scoring as this is probably the toughest match for Argentina so far

Higuain has always been a bad ass and one of my favorite players. One of about 3 reasons I can stomach Real Madrid for more than 10 minutes.

bold part:
just like merv said, i was highlighting STRIKERS. not ridiculing your opinion because it's obviously shared by many. not for me though, i remember telling beast b4 el clasico that i didn't think that ronaldo is reals most dangerous player, gonzalo higuain is. (i'm not saying he didn't believe me but i remember saying it and getting laughed at from other members). take your eye away from gonzalo and he'll punish me. 100% sure of that.
italic part:
that USA discussion is driving you mad :p i said that he doesn't fit the barca model because I think so and because it's a fact. not that you'd become deluded from it.

lol sorry I need to just go have a beer or something and chill out, I've been on edge lately and not just because of that thread

I certainly like Higuain more than Ronaldo and other players I rated above him though, he's a much better sportsman for one thing and doesn't have to resort to diving as a tactic (at least not that I have seen, I didn't watch every single RM match)... doesn't seem to complain about anything, seems to get on well with teammates, etc. If class was judged on that then CR and Drogba and possibly Rooney would get negative points... it's too bad that they're still damn good players regardless of their questionable sportsmanship

Barcetia i never claimed he is the best striker in the world ? where did u hear that

i said
i believe if he keep a cool head on his shoulder by the time he reach 26 he will be by far the best CF in the world breaking so many records
is s
He still has some records and accomplishments to make , he is not the best but as i said if he keep what he is doing now (which is improve on his weak points and get better in the areas he miss + be grounded not like some parts of last season where the media got the best of him ) he will certainly be there .

The difference between Higuain and other strikers is his curve of improvement is always on the up sometimes 90 degrees , from part striker with 11 goals or so to someone who score 20 + goals for two consecutive seasons , till this season he didn't score in the CL ( though until season 08/09 he was a sub for Ruud-Raul so it's basically his second CL season ) this year he scored in the group stages and was close in scoring in the KO round .
on the national level he was excluded due to the Olympic team saga , kept a cool head refused Dom dom gazillion attempts to push him to play for France and waited till Maradona finally gave him a call up in times were Argentina was close of staying at home , he played & scored in his debut and never looked back since
his goal vs Germany in the friendly when the Argie won 1-0 was a typical Higuain the striker with his anticipation & awareness of the game and the other team faults (see also his Mexico goal )
now 7/8 month later from his debut he is the top goal scorer for his country in the WC and keeping players older and more talented than him on the bench .
I'm proud of how much he improve himself , there is so much of Raul in him in several aspects and he is one of the best deals we made in the last 7 years .. for 13 Million USD he was a steal

honest mistake. as usual i confuse you with my friends that shout gonzalo worlds best after he's scored 1 goal :p agree with what you're saying although I believe that he's not Raul but Ruud van nistelrooy.
if you look at how ruud takes down the ball, shoots, moves and makes his runs they are almost exactly the same as higuains..

That's because Higuain is a sponge if you haven't noticed :D

you put him with other strikers for some time and he'll learn the good from them , there is some stuff he do that Ruud used to do & plenty of stuff Raul used to do
he is like Raul in being at the right place at the right time and the fact that he never stops running in & out of the box while he took the nerves of steel from Ruud and the one on one finishing
that goal i posted i remember Ruud scoring a replica , Higuain had no problem in admitting he learned from Ruud and Raul a lot .. one of the reasons he is Raul favorite player and enjoy the captain protection (under his wing )
i hope he took some from his Argie squad

My man Higuain topping the goal scoring charts .. i hope he score a goal or 2 vs Germany cause i feel the Germans will take Argentina out ..

Damn you Gio, couldn't u have waited till after the Qtf? :s I'll hold u personally responsible if he doesn't get on the scoresheet next match. Hope you'vnt jinxed him. :icon_neutral:

Even though he is scoring all these goals he's still not convincing me that he is world class, great player yes, but his goals are often by chance, that he happened to be in the right place at the right time while Messi created everything.

Strikers are there not to create, but to finish of the chances tht are created for them. Torres doesn't do much else.

diego milito - 3 finals. 4 goals. won the pichichi of italy. not much more needed to say.
As far as i know, Milito has never been the Capocannoniere.

6. rooney - the best header of them all.

The would be Drogba. Rooney is good no doubt, but in tight spaces or when aerially challenged by good defenders, he isn't tht effective. The best in the world atm is Torres. A great leap in the air, can win aerial duels and get it on target under most circumstances.

To sum it up, there are strikers who are more versatile than the others. But a strikers fundamentals are his movement, positioning, anticipation, technique of striking the ball, making ur self available at the right occasion and finishing. Others are all an added feature. You judge a striker on his strike rate/goals per game ratio NOT on his assists or the ground covered or % of completed passes etc. And in order to get the goals, a striker needs to get his fundamentals right. And Higuain does tht to a tee. I'm sure France could 've used someone like him the box. Thank God, he didn't choose them. :D

@ Barcetia, why can't Gonzalo not fit the Barca model? We create zillion chances, he'd be awesome for us. Hes pacy & his movement and finishing is top notch. Its not like Pedro offers more.

He has also scored variety of goals. And some very difficult ones. So its not like he scores only the easy ones or mere 'tap-ins'
I wanted to post the one against Germany but keeping the coming match in mind. I'll wait. :D

Drogba's aerial ability is really overrated, Rooney and Torres are both better than him in the air easily.
