It was difficult but not impossible, Lavezzi pass should als have been a little better.

No, it can't happen to anyone. Higuain missed because he's the bottler. Massive talent but as always, he bottles it. If you're looking for someone who would miss a 1 on 1 or a penalty in a close game under huge pressure 10 times out of 10, Higuain is your man.

Didn't he score vs Holland in the semifinal of the World Cup? That was probably his most important penalty for Argentina and he scored. Many players miss penalties when the pressure is on. Doesn't mean much. Messi bottled it vs. Chelsea. So what? It happens. Baggio missed it in 94, Shevchenko bottled it in 2005, Trezeguet in 2003 and 2006. Countless of other examples. Messi himself said he gets nervous when he has to take a penalty, it's normal.

Not that i particulary want Messi and Mascherano another title, but it makes me sad that he is again partly to blame for it. He was a great talent once, a very promising striker when he came to Madrid. He was lethal, he had skills, hungry, he even had pace(he doesnt anymore). He was a world class striker in the making, and he was one for some time. He did suffer some severe injuries, so its understandable he lost some qualities such as agility and pace, but he has regressed in most other areas as well.
He is not a bad striker, better than most, but he didnt become what he could have been.

He had a terrible season with Napoli, single-handedly ruining their chances of CL football. Surely his confidence is not as great as it used to be, and for Tata to pull that off, I'm sure Higgy was caught off guard.


He shouldn't have been selected. Icardi had an amazing season in Serie A and deserved to be selected. You want to select the on-form players for the national team.

It's not exactly his first time that he missed a crucial penalty or missed a crucial 1 on 1 opportunity....

The entire burden of the loss doesn't fall on Higuain obviously but he did and does choke. When the pressure was on and he needed to do his duty, he failed.
