I love how he tries so hard to clarify that he's not saying Messi is better than Madrid players, but clearly means it.
Guti is a legend and I know for a fact you love him.
This quote says so much about Guti. It sums up everything he was for Madrid and everything he really is/was.
Guti is a son of the club, a Madridista through and through. One hell of a character, as complex as they come, and as eventful as they come. What made Guti, the player we know him, or what didn't make Guti the Xavi of Madrid was what he had to go through under Perez. Before anything else, there is no one man on earth that could love Madrid more than Guti. He is very passionate about Madrid as a club and you could tell from how honest he was when Madrid were suffering. He also has a special place for Barcelona in his heart, a lot more than Arbeloa.
Guti, besides his weaknesses, is a victim of the Galacticos. He saw his place being removed further away from the first team as we saw a huge influx of superstars and a huge turnover of utility players like Garcia and Thomas. So when he speaks about Madrid, he always speaks the truth, as with Roberto Carlos. However, he will always take it personally when he sees more Galacticos come into the club and not show up. For him to praise a direct rival isn't easy considering what he thinks of Barcelona, but its easier than to accept players who shy away from opportunities. Because for all of Guti's short comings (and there are plenty), he dies for the club. I say this fully knowing the garbage matches he put in after brilliant performances, frustrating the hell out of everyone.
Even though this is personal for Guti, he is right.
