There was an interview some time back, when he was 19 and he was asked about where his extraordinary shooting comes from.
He said that he spend the majority of his childhood with his father on a hardcourt-pitch where they practised, only that goals wouldnt count as goals, and instead only hitting the post or the crossbar would count as a point. He also said that he really YouTube'd the fuck out of Juninho and practized shooting the ball like him with multiple curves and ball rotation in flight.

Juninho is currently holding the european record of 44 freekick-goals scored for Lyon in 344 games, he scored a freekick in every 7.8 matches.
Calhanoglu meanwhile at the age of 21, already scored 11 freekicks in 67 matches, therefor scoring a freekick in every 6.0 matches.
Unfortunately data is not precise on the conversion rates and also the freekicks they scored in lower or non-european leagues, therefor an exact comparison isnt possible, but Calhanoglu not exactly unlikely to emulate Juninho or even overtake him statistically. Both scored absolute stunners, even from like the midfield-line and shit, its crazy. Also I believe it was Calhanoglu aswell who held the european record last season for goals outside the box.
