They're the most underwhelming 'big club' going. They think they're a massive club. To be fair they have won a lot of English titles and FA Cups. But they have always been an irrelevance in Europe. Also, their history started with a cash injection which is ironic given their moaning about City.

They never come close to winning the CL and haven't won the PL for 20 years and counting. Yet their fans talk like they're as big as Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc.
Yea because they generally play good football and "compete".

That's what some want Barcelona to become.

Helllllll noooooo to that.

When was the last time Barcelona made the CL final?.

Irrelevant point you started with tbh.

Some teams are happy to get to the dance, others are only happy with winning it.

That's what desperates the fc Barcelona's of the world from the arsenal's of the world.

If getting to the latter rounds of the CL was a indication you will win it soon, atleti would always have at least one. how many do they have? zero.

Because it's irrelevant, only thing that matters is actually winning it.
You usually have to get to the dance multiple times to win it, though.

If it's win it or nothing, it just won't work out, because a competition like that will take a few good tries just on balance.

We either ignore it or try to win it and to try to win it you might stumble at the final hurdles sometimes, which is not a bad thing.

Of course making a CL final shows your team has increased in strength. It is the hardest competition and getting to the final demonstrates you were able to knock out many good teams.

Even if nothing would be won, that would give optimism that Flick is improving the team a lot and the team is returning to be a European contender.

Yea should try to win it, that goes without saying, but failing to win it, isn't some great achievement is all I'm saying.

That's a small club mentality.

The point he's making is that you have to take it step by step. And we've done that in recent years. Now we need to make the next step and enter top 4, something we've missed last season due to our own fuck-ups. It is an important part of the season to me.

No team goes from getting knocked out in groups to straight up winning it. Groups this year, quarters this year, semis this year, and in 2-3 seasons you can maybe win it. Not sure if people notice, but the better teams usually win the CL final, and the surprise finalist loses.

Of course, I agree winning big titles is the end goal, but not every season is a bust if you don't win a title. By this metric, Klopp was more of a failure than a triumph at Liverpool. Man won 2 big titles in 9 years.

Klopp kinda was a failure, because he failed to adapt, which would have helped his team win more.

But he was starting from such a low point, he was ultimately a big success and even though he lost way more than he won, (I'm talking about league not CL, because that's a flip of a coin most times), because he moved the club forward and left it it a better place than he found it.

That's how I judge if a manager is a success or failure, we will see if flick will have moved the club forward after leaving or will we be more or less in the same place as we were before he came in.

That's right. And in CL if he makes a semifinal it is the best performance since 2018-19. That would be important for me, to continue the work of the previous manager and help make the next step in Europe.

If winning is our only objective and playing gimpball is forgivable why not hire the likes of Conte, Allegri or Mourinho ???

Klopp was a huge success because he got Liverpool from a B/C side in England to a consistant A competing side. Rafa may have achieved it a decade/half decade before but they stuffed the league in what was it 2009 or so where they started awesome.

So there has to be some perspective between where a manager takes the side in their tenure. He was aided too that despite the club being huge, that there was relative low expectation. The big carrot of the first leg title in decades was enough. Plus they competed with the FFP breakers.

Xavi was a great bridge manager for us. Now if Flick can build on that, get us playing better as we saw in the first few months and winning trophies and competing then hopefully he can have a successful tenure.
