And if Villarreal wins their game in hand, we will be closer to 5th than 1st place.

Honestly, I don't care that much as long as we are in the top 3. It has some financial ramifications, but it is a lost league either way.

There are still 18 games to be played, one direct duel, 54 points to be potentionally reached. The question about LaLiga's champion will be answered at the end of the season, not now. The league wouldn't have been won if we would have been 7 points up front or isn't lost, because the blancos lead by 7 at this point. If we win 15 out of these 18 games, I'm confident we'll win LaLiga. 84 points doesn't sound too much, but there is no consistent 90+ points team this season if Madrid keeps playing this way as well.
And we have an easier second half with more home games. Obviously it will also depend on the referees. If they keep robbing us, we have no chance of winning 15 games.

November & December were awful league campaign result wise.
But, since new year we played 5 games and first 4 were great. The 5th were against Getafe away which is essentially our new Anoeta. There is a reason for hope that things are getting better.

We won 1 out the last 8. What makes you think we have a chance to win 15 out of the next 18?
Yes!
Even much so when we go back and read what were the expectations at the beginning of the season.

Yea understand different circumstances the gefate draw would be looked at as one of this results you have to just take.
But with the context of what happen before and the Atleti loss, we should have figured out a way to win.

Because we don't have a bad form in playing, just forgot how to score against deep defenses. Most of the games were still convincing. I believe if the team finds the key to scoring goals against deep defenses, we'll go on a longer winning streak. It's not like we play bad. We dominated Atletico all game for example.
Flick just needs to find the right lever, the potential is definitely there. Look at the seaon's start, it's not like the players don't know how to achieve a winning streak.

We have another Clasico still to come and by any indications we can cut the gap by 3 there. Its still possible and in our hands but very unlikely if Flick won't sort out our form against the lower teams.

Honestly the Atleti game in this horror run in the league is the only way we consistently out played the opposition.
The other games. We really didn't play that well.
