Hansi Flick - how do we rate him?

You're welcome
Stabbed in the back by his fellow countryman.

I actually liked how we played first half 10 vs 11. And being able to score a goal.

Yes could have sat back defending 1-1 but we are awful at that anyway.

From psychological standpoint we might be turning a new leaf from having team believe they are strong enough to chase more goals with 1 goal down dunno.

He did not capitulate with his subs at all. He got badly done in this match by some poor players for this level. Like almost all the previous managers in the last 7-8 years.

That's why his job is very difficult. Flick has a very high-risk style that requires players to be very good on the ball and in passing. If on the night they start to do some stupid shit, then that style is gonna come back to hurt us badly, and is gonna lead to poorly conceded goals.

It is what it is, moaning about the squad at this point, while valid, is counter-productive. This is the situation, these are the players, and need to fight with what we have and give everything to win.

Monaco press fast up top. We should have known this from Gamper when they got a goal out of Bernal turnover.

We should have been wiser on that Eric Garcia pressure.

Cost us the game.

Everything after that are small details.

You can make a case about having 10 men on the field, but fact is we were outplayed all night long. And some of the issues displayed weren't down to having one man less.
I think it was though. Before the card it was clear we would dominate even with this weakened team with Monaco having openings here and there due to our ridiculous high defense. However this lineup isn't good enough to absorb lot of pressure and control the game with makeshuft midfield. Also no plausible option to swap anyone in for Garcia. There were lots of shitty circumstances.

Only thing, where Hansi really cucked out is not subbing a runner in for Lewa. It's as if our coaches are ordered to play him no matter what.
Also set pieces will always be our weak spot as long as focus is on technical players sacrificing athleticism. I'd say we actually defended them fairly well, given amount and fact that Frozen Ter Dogshit has zero presence or more like additional threat to own goal in them.

It was 11v11

Unless you want to claim we start all games a player up because we have a more expensive team than most other clubs?
Actually good point. Compared to xaviball we do look like having advantage in numbers in normal circumstances. Wait while Gavi, Dejong, Olmo etc. are back. It will seem even more promounced.

I'm sure they were instructed to avoid that type of pass when there's heavy pressure on the receiver, but it's still up to the players to make the decision on the spot.

The problem lies also with the fact that you need to reduce risk when you have key players injured and the opponents are a bit more tricky than your usual La Liga mid-table opposition. Some other player instead of Garcia could have defused the entire situation and saved Stegen's bacon, but Garcia is not at that level. He was a makeshift midfielder.

So, more tweaking with his system is needed. This squad is not in any way close to his Bayern 2020 side. Drop the risk a bit lower when you are faced with squad issues and injuries impeding you from having your best players in these key positions. You would not ask from Garcia to do the stuff Rodri is doing for City for example. You do that, and you'll dig your own hole.

The player's quality should dictate what type of risk is manageable and what type of risk is not. No manager no matter how great is gonna make subpar players deliver high-quality performances, especially in CL away games vs good teams.

lol at the people critisizing Flick after this. Half of the team is injured and on top of that his captain decided to go full retard in one more game.

Yes, but these excuses were valid in the past too and didn't stop people from jumping at the manager's throat. That's the club and the pressure the manager gets at Barcelona.

Flick got a worse squad right now than some of those managers with all of our injuries.

Anyway, you can get Pep Guardiola in and we won't be sniffing a CL trophy for as long as Marc-Andre ter Stegen is our goalkeeper. Even one of the greatest individual seasons by Messi in 2018/19 wasn't enough due to this arrogant mfucker. He even conceded 5 goals in 6 shots to lose us an unbeaten league season.

True.

The issue is that Eric wasn't used to playing the ball in that situation, so it's mostly on Stegen who had other less cute options available.

Eric has mostly closed out matches against tired opponents where there is a little bit more space and time, and almost no press in that kind of action.

Casado more than likely puts that with a one touch pass to Cubarsi for example.

Anyways, it is done now. I think we should have gone with Casado-Pedri becomes they have accustomed to eachother over a few games and we knew from the Gamper that Monaco target the pivots with pressure.

If this had stayed 11v11 we probably win though, even with Eric at pivot.

Onwards and upwards. Villarreal will be another difficult but very winnable game.

Maybe, marginally. Situation was pretty bad vs Inter too in that decisive match when we had the entire backline out. Attack did its job by scoring 3 goals on the night and missing other chances, but the makeshift defense brought our downfall.

Situation now is certainly much worse in midfield, not quite as dire in defense (so far ), and about the same in attack.

Makeshift defence, all starters in.
Results in Europe are the same. I see other GKs clutching up for their teams when their defenders are getting wrecked, but we obviously cannot expect the same from our elite captain.

What do you mean all starters in? Araujo, Christensen, Kounde didn't play at all due to injury, and De Jong was not match fit. That's like the entire starting defense.
