Nobody gives a shit about favorites. Bayern last year got sent home by fecking Villareal. Madrid would have hammered them.

Nah it is relevnt to where they currently are.

You certainly care about favourites though... as long as can claim it as Real.

Being beaten by Villareal is all taken into account when still have them as 2nd favs.

What they do this season is relevant to the discussion anyway if judging where they currently are.

Arsenal is coming from behind challenging the top 3 of Europe. Liverpool also are coming from behind, a scenario that suits Klopp.
No they aren't... they aren't even top5.

If they can't win a league against as you say the worst Barca of all time, with Courtois and Benzema (who they don't have now) then how can you put them in 2nd?

They are playing Joselu up front now ffs. Lunin in goal. Their entire team can be Castilla players and you would claim they are still better than Barca.

Sucks that our situation is so bad financially because if we had 250-300m to pump for 2-3 starters right this summer Barca could attack 2nd place after City quickly.

You can lose a league if you fuck up against smaller teams. CL record is far better indicative of peak level. And Madrid are making top 4 or better in CL almost every year for like 10 years in a row.

Last 3 years, semis, winners, semis. Another team except City on this record? None.

Let's ignore that Bayern sacked their manager before the City game and almost blew everything, until Dortmund remembered their place.

Should be better with more time under Tichel.

It's not as if City vs Bayern was a big difference last year. Just timely goals for City, and Bayern lacking a striker which they have Kane for now.

Not so sure about that. Our problem is less ability and more mentality in Europe at the moment. Ability in some key positions is lacking, but club needs some winners and mentally strong players to come through the ranks to handle the heightened intensity that CL KO games entail.

They got hammered by City last season. That was with their 2 best players (Courtois and Benzema).
They now don't have either and they didn't replace them either.

Usual.

Sucks Barca spent hundreds of millions and get pumped in group while a team like Inter that is a selling side largely goes through and makes final.

Sucks.

I think in general Bayern get downplayed here because of Barcas individual record against them in recent years. But if you’re going to be impartial, at the very least they are top 3 when it comes to the strongest squads.

Yes, City are no1 for 2 years. Clearly.
They got smoked... and they couldn't do anything in the league either, and got smoked there. They also got smoked in H2H with Barca other than 1 Copa game where we missed a few important players.

Basically you have no evidence on last season to suggest they are the 2nd best team in the world. They are now significantly weaker on paper than they were last season also.

So I ask again what is your rationale for stating they are 2nd best, when they are coming off an abysmal season, and won't have their 2 best players?

It's both. A high-level mentality usually comes from having proven ability at the top. It's near impossible for teenagers to have this kind of mentality by themselves. It's obtained in years of playing with high-class players in their prime. Hoping the likes of Pedri get that mentality by magic is dream-land.

Our best chance is they somehow develop on their own, even if slower. But fans demanding instant results are putting up a lot of pressure that is too much for them, at the current level. Likes of Pedri and Gavi would need a De Bruyne next to them for example. High-level players around them that would take some pressure off them.

I'm sorry but those players are not free. They cost hundreds of millions.

Even the likes of Iniesta and Xavi had top 5 Ballon d'Or players like Ronaldinho and Deco to take the burden off them, and that's at 22-23, not 18-19.

Pedri by example, poor guy, he's inflated to the heavens by desperate fans needing the next Iniesta right now.
