of all the newcastle games I watched this season he never seems to start and only comes on when they go behind is this a regular thing I dont follow them?
unfortunately it has become a regular thing. Frustratingly, given all the technically gifted players that Newcastle United have, our manager Alan Pardew prefers to play LONG BALL FOOTBALL. A type of football that clearly does not suit Hatem Ben Arfa. When we play traditional English hoof it up the field to the big man, the ball bypasses a lot of our technical players in midfield, Jonas, Tiote, Cabaye, and Ben Arfa especially and they just appear not to be in the game for long periods as a result.
when Ben Arfa plays, he starts passing the ball on the deck and as a result others players begin to do so as well. when we play this football there is a risk of losing the ball in the midfield and getting hit on the counter attack and I think that is what Pardew is affraid of. Ben Arfa is the type of player to take other players on, and as a result he will lose the ball once in a while, but not more often than other players in the team do. Anyway Pardew tries to hide the fact that he doesn't start Ben Arfa(Newcastle's BEST PLAYER) because he prefers long ball football, by claiming Ben Arfa loses the ball too much and doesn't run back enough which is absolute bullshish.
Fans are catching on to Pardews' game here, and have been calling for Ben Arfa to start for weeks yet he's still to much of a coward as he prefers his long ball football, where you will only lose possession high in the oppositions half as oppossed to passing football on the deck where you could possibly lose the ball in midfield and get countered.
When Pardew's longball game is not working, he really doesn't have a freaking clue what to do tactically. So he throws our best player on the pitch in Ben Arfa, when we have nothing to lose because we are losing the match, hoping Ben Arfa will produce some magic and get us back into the game or win it all by himself.
He came off the bench against Sunderland and showed once again why he should be starting games. Pardew prefers Ryan taylor on the RW because of his deliveries and the fact that he is defensive minded (he's a RB natuarlly), but all he does his hoof in long deep deep crosses into the box, he doesn't even try beat the full back and get in a proper cross, so technically it's just long ball.
If Pardew does not change this negative Long Ball style he will go the way of big sam with fans turning against him as they wise up to his game. He tries to pretend his teams play attractive attacking football on the deck, he even talked about Newcastle working on it in the summer in pre-season, but it's been long ball all season. There have only been a handful of games where we have played attractive passing football on the deck.
I appreciate that long ball football has got us to 6th place in the Premier League with a chance of 4th place, but he does not have a clue tactically what to do when that tactic is clearly not working, other than desperately throw on our best player which is a joke. Despite the fantastic job he has done, there are much more tactically adept and aesthetic managers out there than him.
funny thing is we were warned about this by an ESPN pundit Stuart Robinson, got to
11:33 of this video
ESPN video and he's almost a prophet with regards to this long ball manager pretending his teams play attractive passing football.
Anyway, he's still done a great job and taken the good work Chris Hughton did to another level. But I feel someone better should be brought in to take us to the next level if he doesn't show more flexibility, nous and sophistication with his tactics, especially if Newcastle qualify for Europe.
