I hope he'll be used on the wings. Apart from maybe Nolito, we don't have adequate subs for Villa and Pedro on the wings.

Our midfield is already too overloaded with talent, and I'd hate Afellay taking a lot of playing-time of Mascherano and Thiago etc away.
He's much better as winger

Just saw the PSV game against Excelsior...he seems to be more animated in the wings, isn't he? Seems like a solid runner as well.

He will most likely be used on the wings by pep, thats where he mainly plays with the NT and even though he is not a traditional winger his speed and directness could make him a usefull sub for us.. cant see him clicking with the tiki taka game in the midfield he dwells on the ball 2 much and needs too much time to make a decision even in the eredivisie, where you get loads of time.. if pep gets him 2 think a bit faster he could become a great player though cuz he has everything else already (speed, technique , great shot)

I agree, he has everything to his game even quickness of thought, though yu say he doesnt have it :D. It wasent his or PSV's best game last night, they never really bother trying thier best when they play those sort of teams but against Feneryood he was marvellous, go and watch that game and you'll see the quickness of thought you think is missing.

Think Jefferen will go in Jan tbh

I have never understood what some people see in Jefferen, i dont think hes that good.

lol so let me get it correct, u are telling me im should watch more eredivisie ? incase you havent noticed yet i was born and raised in the netherlands and hardly ever miss a psv game.. i have been watching afellay ever since he debuted under hiddink.. pretty much every plaudit in holland agrees on this and its one of afellays biggest points of criticism, he loves to run with the ball and most of the time it works out because psv play counter football so ussually there is alot of space for afellay to run into but when the spaces are limited and he has very little time to make decisions this weakness shows but its not something that cant get sorted out imo afellay is by no means the cocky type i think pep will love him he is a very level headed and humble guy (despite his rants on the pitch sometimes) and always very eager to learn and also som1 that seems to thrive and excel when he plays with worldclass players (as we have seen with the NT).. my only doubt/fear is that its too much embedded in him and it will be hard to get it out of him but lets see what pep can do with him

as far as the feyenoord game, lol very bad example.. feyenoord possibly had their worst game in their history.. its easy to be quick of thought when there are so many options for a midfielder to choose out of.. afellay had all the time and constantly had 3 or 4 options because feyenoord were so lousy in defence and giving acres of space away to the psv forwards..

I didnt say go and watch more Eredivise, I dont even watch that much though after watching a few PSV games I think I will.

I agree with the rants on the pitch part, it was hilarious last night everytime he was complaining

I love him already, he would fit here nicely

Ok, the Feneryood example was a bad one but you gotta admit, it was a cracking game.

^^This is so true!
You can not compare the Dutch League with the Spanish League. Not even the 'top' matches.
And the match against Feyenoord.... c'mon man it is once in a lifetime such a match.

Yeah, I already admitted I was wrong dont kick a man when he's down lmao

But even though the Dutch league may be shit, which i think its not the football there is just brillaint, Afellay has already played European and International football and proved himself. So the argument about the eredvise being shit(even though its not), is void.

Yeah sometimes that can leave the wrong impression, he really is not that type of person though he just had alot of burden on his shoulders with psv because everything goes through him and when it goes bad he gets the blame.. so sometimes that frustration shifts towards refs and results in that behaviour.. outside of the pitch he is probably one of the nicest and most himble people you will ever meet and pep wont have any problems with him.. he wont try any of that with barca though he knows when to tone it down and play his part, its just that at psv he has been the main man since a very young age

Agreed, at least we wont have any problems with him enjoying the night life too much, does he have a gf? Cause that would be even better for him.

Edit:I was looking up pics of Afellay and his gf and I found Iniesta and his missus, I lol'ed

well i wouldnt exactly call the football here brilliant lol but its definetily a very entertaining league every team, even the ones playing for relegation try to play attacking football, u wont see alot of busparking nobody is afraid of the big clubs.. guess its just the dutch way.. the defending is absolutely woeful though lol

Yeah he is a very dedicated muslim, he doesnt drink or smoke and hardly ever goes to nightclubs.. unless he starts hanging out with pique you dont have to fear for any of that lol

Correct. He had to carry PSV at a very young age after Cocu left. Also some trouble on managementlevel with 5 coaches in a very short period. It wasnt easy. At Barca he doesnt have to carry the squad, but solely focus on his game. Thats the difference in play if you compare Afellay at PSV and Afellay at the Dutch squad.

I agree, Afellay seems an all round much better player for the national team, because he has players as good as him alongside him, so instead of doing everything like he tries to do at PSV, he just concentrates on his game, and the Sweden performance showed the benefits of that.
