I feel sorry for the next opponent of Barca, they ll want to take revenge for this defeat.

There obviously is still a gap between where Afellay now is and where he needs to be. Maybe Im biased, but I think he left a better impression compared to the other players that got an opportunity today. Milito was by far the worst player, I never noticed him...but what I saw didnt make me happy. He was involved in all three conceded goals.

Good thing your name isnt Pep.

Sky Sports commentator called him the best Barca player tonight, if true, it says more about the rest of the team today than about Ibi. He was decent if you have in mind that you can't expect Ibi to lead Barcelona.

I somehow almost agree with Povikas.. because this was a big chance to prove alot.. the commentators on skysport go as far as calling him the best player on Barca site.. rubbish! Now im not calling him the worst, but come on.. 77 minutes he had. Next time better, i hope!

What do you expect? Have you ever watched him for PSV Eindhoven?

He really was, now it might have been because the other were bad but that doesn't change the fact that he was the best barca player on the pitch.

The only thing that he did bad was give some bad passes but otherwise he was pretty good. And don't forget that this was his first start for barca, so ofc he was nervous. Give the guy a break. He worked hard, did some impressive runs almost did a brilliant nutmeg on a defender inside the penalty area and had 2 good shots that all of that just doesn't disappear just because he did some bad passes.

Have you seen how many unforced errors all the players made? Not just the players that got a chance, but also Xavi and Messi. You could see that the team had an offday. Seeing those circumstances Afellay had a decent play. So I can understand what the Sky commentator meant by what he said.

I just feel that some here have far too high expectations from Ibi, expect him to do things he can't do. Expect him to become a vital part of the best team in the world, expect to shine while the rest of the team plays bad. Wake up! Afellay will not change an entire game on his own, Afellay will not be the next Messi! Afellay will become an useful squad player who will do well if they ask him to start, and in the future if lucky, a first eleven player who plays along with the flow.

Don't expect miracles from him.

I partially agree with you. Yes, we don't have to expect miracles from him. He is no Messi and he never will be. There is no shame in that. But he has just been at Barca for 19 days and already adapted faster than I expected. His job now is to think faster and make the right decisions + assists and goals. Those will be crucial if he really wants to move up the ranks. Nobody knows what he will become. Time will tell.

He looked 100x better in the AM (Iniesta's) position, than he has on the right wing for his other 3 appearances. He should have played where Keita does and Jeffren should have started on the right.

Lolz, Cesc as a winger....now that'd be a sight. I love the kid but he's slooooooow. If it weren't for his superb dribbling and vision he'd get nowhere with the ball. Cesc moves the ball really well and could potentially be a good replacement for Xavi, maybe the best. However Cesc is very different than Xavi. He has great vision and passing skills but he is also a lot more attacking minded; he'd have to learn how to sit back a bit more than he does at Arsenal. I think Cesc, under Pep, could pick up the position beautifully but honestly- Arsenal ain't letting him go for anything short of 50 million. PERIOD. He's their captain, Wenger loves him, other clubs want him and he's their crown jewel. I don't see Cesc coming here for even 35-40 million unless he demands a trasnfer and threatens not to perform- which he will never do to Arsenal.

I see Afellay, matured a lot for his age like Cesc, and I see a potential future. Sure he'd still only what 24?! Xavi wasn't the superstar or player he is now at 24 either; however I see the potential to be. Afellay, like Mascherano, are too good to be squad players. We promised Thiago a first team promotion next year and if Afellay performs well I don't see much room for Cesc. If anything we'll get a tall hard worker/destroyer type to replace Keita.

He wouldn't have to learn anything, he will do his business the way he knows it best. You will see a different Barcelona, a more direct one and that isn't a bad thing at all.

Still needs time to gel with the tiki-taka but atleast he offers something different. More direct, nice dribbling skills, and a Ronaldo-esque shot. well done Ibrahim!
