So after being barely average last season, Gundogan is in top form now after a few games in august....?

He was not so good after being out of football for so long. To expect him to light up the World again after that is unreasonable.

Gundogan a few seasons ago in Kovacic's age showed twice of what Kova is doing right now, that says a lot about his ability.

When he's back on form he's arguably our best option, because his top level is very high and because he's very consistent at it too. If he has a good season now then he should be seriously considered next summer.

Massive respect for Gundogan on getting back in this position after it seemed like his career could end a couple of years ago.

Said it months ago. He's a superb TEAM player but not necessarily a good individualistic player who can turn things around on his own (like Pogba for example). As such his performance suffers when the team is completely out of sync which Dortmund last season clearly were. It's not coincidence either that the likes of Schmelzer, Mkhitaryan or even Kagawa have improved greatly as well.

[gfy]WellwornBouncyGrosbeak[/gfy]

Winning the ball back on his own, dribbling past two and assisting Reus' goal.

[gfy]ImpressiveNauticalChick[/gfy]

Xavi-esque ball behind the defensive line.

[gfy]GlassMediumBagworm[/gfy]

Facilitating a counter attack move by a perfectly timed through ball.

If he continues that way there's no reason for us to not go for him. He was the best central midfielder in the world in 2013 and is slowly but surely returning to level.

Agreed.

But rarely do we make a sensible football decision. Watch Barca chase Pogba all summer'16, whilst Ilkay get bought by one of Madrid, ManU or Buyern for quarter the sum.

So true. Our management must be some sort of special breed.

We can get him in winter if Dortmund allows it. He won't be cup tied, so it would be an ideal purchase. If we get one also one of Yarmolenko/Martial our depth after winter break would be pretty good.

This may be a controversial opinion but I think Gundogan's overrated.

He's injury prone who stands out as a player with good passing ability in a team that rarely makes more than 3 passes in the build-up play and Dortmunds game-plan relies on counter-attacks.

If Gundogan's a so called "Maestro", then Xabi Alonso was it too

Gundogan want to make things as fast as possible by making through balls toward the goal.

He's some skill and have a good awareness in the game, but he isn't a passing genius or something like that.

Otherwise, there are better players when it comes on this aspect such as Thiago and Pjanic.

People who never acknowledged someone will never do it regardless of what he does.

The fact that you use the injury proneness card on Gündogan (who's had ONE major injory in his career) to say that he's overrated but then go on to claim that Thiago (who's had MANY long injuries) is the superior player says it all. The Thiago who has never been remotely as good as 2013 Gündogan in all aspects of play. Except maybe the cockiness or arrogance that Thiago sometimes likes to show on the field.

It's also quite evident that you haven't watched a single Dortmund game under Tuchel this season as they are in fact not reliable on counter attacks. The only explanation I can think of is that Reddit hasn't yet moved on from the direct approach from Klopp and as such think they'd more or less play the same style of football.
