Can't catch a break

Wow. Are you kidding me? (not really a question - I know it's official...)

How is this even possible? Poor lad

4 week layoff with muscular injury suddenly equates to end of career?...Kneejerking is a widespread disease it seems

This is sport, injuries happen...Care to guess how many Messi, Iniesta et al have had over the last few years?

It's the fact that after being out for several years (honestly, it feels like the last time he was on the pitch Pep was still in charge...) he was ready to come back and then got injured again. Without even playing one single minute.

sorry this is not just a case of "injuries happen". No one (not even Afellay) was injured that much in the last years.

The problem is he hasn't been able to come back from any of his injuries. They're pilling up on him. When was the last time he played, or had a good run of games?

It's a 4 week muscular injury, let's keep that in perspective before writing his epitaph non?...Injuries after major surgery and rehab are not uncommon so long as they are not serious injuries, which a muscular one is not

This is a player that was once very much counted on until arthroscopic knee (right) surgery in May 2012 that sidelined him until November '12...The only reason he was loaned to Ajax in January '13 was to get him some games and strengthen his knee...Unfortunately, as can happen after these sort of operations he continued to experience instability in that right knee which saw him return to the club and have another arthroscopic operation in June of last year...Shelved him until this past fall/winter

From there, no one is quite sure what is true about his rehab...There were suggestions he was not applying himself enough in rehab or that he wasn't trusting his knee but he never has had a chance to recover from the initial problem to his knee to warrant the label as a Jeffren...Problem is too many people think surgeries are exact and that the course of surgery, treatment, rehab and return to play is a given when in fact it is merely a blueprint...and plans change...Moreover, arthroscopic surgery for meniscus repair is a far cry from ligament damage and major surgery...And now we're talking about a muscular setback, a common consequence of athletes rehabbing from meniscus repair since you are trying to strengthen the muscles to support that knee

It's a setback, it's not the end of his career although it certainly hampers his chances to show his quality at Barcelona before having to decide what to do with him this summer...although I suspect the plan was always to send him back on loan (Probably back to Ajax)

In the end, and we're far away from that with a 22 year old cantera player, we'll see how his knee does but the prognosis for these sorts of repairs are good with a high success rate

feel really sorry for the boy, not that long ago he seemed to have the world at his feet, now he spends all his time on his arse.

Good you're optmistic. But I've seen similar cases to his, and it never ended well. It's been almost 2 years since his surgery, and he's still struggling.
