This exactly. He would be such a monster if he had at least somewhat decent speed.
Was solid today, btw.
Very similar to Busquets. He was all over the pitch sprinting back and keeping our shape.

Kroos was also bought for similar money, but I think he was on the last year of his contract.

Whenever Rakitic starts chasing down the ball I always think to myself "no worries, he's just accelerating", but to this day the fact that "no, he's actually at his top speed already!" still catches me by surprise every time 
But apart from his lack of pace, which in recent memory I can only say is "bested" by Fabregas aka the bearded tortoise, Rakitic is an absolutely terrific player. When in form he mostly weighs up for his lack of pace by being quick minded and knowing exactly what to do with the ball once he receives it, as well as being very good with his decision making, accurate in his passing and a hard worker. In my opinion he's one of the more crucial pieces to Lucho's Barca.

Apparently, Rakitic's a long time friend with the current president (Mladen Krstajic) of FK Radnik Bijeljina.
They played together at Schalke 04.
