In reality, it's only the truth when we speak about their running pace. Because Busquets is far more bright on the ball. Busquets is a super fast thinker and that allows him to quickly make the best choice. Then Busquets is super fast at applying the choice he made. Busquets can be a fast passer.

On the other hand, Rakitic is slow at running, but not only at that. Rakitic is also slow at thinking and making a choice. That's basically why he became a backwards pass merchant: because he doesn't even think anymore he just automatically goes for the easiest solution. When once in a month Rakitic decides to try a brave forward play in tight situation, he's so slow at applying it that he usually loses the ball in pathetic fashion.

Busquets has slow pace. Rakitic is slow in every football aspect. That's the difference between them.

Today, Rakitic was bad until the red card and Arthur's cameo. Because Arthur absorbed all the pressure once again, and that allowed Rakitic to play in larger spaces where his overall slowness was less exposed.

Sure Busquets is declining. At this point it's undeniable. But we gotta see what he can offer in a pure Barça like midfield. For example, when he had bad periods under Lucho/Valverde in previous seasons, he still played great with Spain under Lopetegui. Plus Busquets still is clearly superior to Rakitic in the aspects I described. Mainly because Busquets might be declining but Rakitic never was great in those aspects in first place.

I agree Barca should start to look at a Busquets replacement (not sure the club bought FDJ for DM position). There's a good possibility Busquets will be done by 2020/2021. But first I'd like to see how a Busquets-Arthur-FDJ midfield will look next season.

THIS!! Rakitic has to touch the ball 2-3 times before he can think of a pass. We have rarely seen him 1-touch pass which is very important under high pressure and tight space.

Busquet is a type of player who need players that are good in positioning themselve alongside him. I would say that our bad off the ball movement is also play a part in Busq form.

He was having yet another hopelessly awful performance until Girona were a man down and Arthur came on for us. After that he improved.


But that's been the theme of Rakitic's season. Plays poorly again and again but that's OK because he'll start every game anyway.

vidal can't play with the ball.

arthur is good, has potential but overrated. right now a flashy showboaty midfielder with only one quality: retaining ball.

needlessly holds the ball even when a forward is open just to show off and makes a back/side pass. then all barca fans say he is best cause he moves like xavi.

arthur looks silky but in the end his move does nothing 4 us in attacking 90% of teams. he can still be good vs all out press like l'pool or city.
