It looks like he has no intentions of leaving:

"I want to be here and, if I can renew I will be here for even more years. I am really happy here, everyone knows it, above all the 'Presi'. I have nothing else to say."

Asked directly if De Jong's arrival could force him out, he added: "That's a good question for the 'Mister' or the 'Presi.' I am 30 and I am in the best moment of my career. I want to enjoy football and enjoy Barça.

He must be totally deluded .
He was slow when he first joined and he's positively sluggish now !

He's relatively inaffective compared to whoever else plays alongside him

You cannot call out bullshit and than post this unbalanced stuff, the kettle is black in this case. Its OK to have an opinion, but when it so far out of the evidence at least acknowledge it as such. https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/65/Show/Spain-Barcelona

What is this supposed to be lol ?
You think you're proving a point by putting a stats site link ? The level of football fans got so low it's hilarious. 2019 we don't believe what our eyes show us we just read statistics. It's hilariously pathetic.

Go read Rakitic thread and you'll see how people who watch his games (2x90mins every week) react to his performances. Rakitic is our worst midfielder this season. When he plays CM it's undeniable. When he plays DM he's less toxic but the whole team is fucked cause we play with 2 static DMs. That's why I said hundred times Rakitic and Busquets need to fight for the DM spot.

Tell me what are Rakitic strengths then, and tell me 10 matches this season in which Rakitic was great. I'm a real football passionate I'll go and watch those games if you can name some. Show me his in game greatness. I don't care about numbers.
Fuck stats, they're lying and don't even address half of a football game aspects.

Rakitic coukd score a hat trick and people would still be calling him the flop of the match

You too should leave football and go watch something like golf or ping pong.
People who know something about football won't expect hat tricks from a CM. Since when did Rakitic become a poacher ?
We're talking about about a midfielder not about Filippo Inzaghi ffs.

If Rakitic scores a hat trick while performing like he did in the first half against Girona, yes of course I will criticize him and say he's a shit midfielder. No brainer.

The day Rakitic puts in an energetic display in midfield while playing bravely and not shitting his pants as soon as he sees any form of pressure or tight spaces, that day I'll praise him. But Michael Jackson and Tupac performing live in Coachella is more likely to happen in 2019.

The Whataboutism is dumb because we all know Busi isn't good either these days as he once was. Doesn't mean we should absolve Rakitic of any criticism.

Just hope both Busi and Rakitic gets it together in time for the CL.

Busi still makes up for his sluggishness by using his superior brainpower to get out from tight spots and make some smart passes. Not as good as in his heydays, but compared to Raki, who couldn't do anything like him even at his peak, comparison is stupid. Only use Rakitic ever had was his work rate and covering for other, more talented players. Without this, he's useless for Barca.

I watch every barca match and sometimes go back. Also the age in pro sports where metrics dont matter or are not useful is LONG past. Rakitic is so very underrated in the little things key to winning (like key interceptions, kept possession and great touches, clearances in set pieces, being in then right position and helping the squad be organized and balanced--many things not very obvious or flashy) and serious obsessive overactions to him. Myself and minority of others keep pointing this out, try to moderate the madness-- the cumulative stats show the myopic view.

So who is right? Is it 1) Me + a professional coach who trains with the players every day and who brought a double when summer of 2017 we seemed 2 levels behind Real + what every big picture stat shows OR 2) yogamaster and a gaggle of reactionary fans wishing on the glory days of iniesta, xavi and busi and anything short of that isn't the barca way and offensive to the eye.

Lets see, i think ill go with #1. Of course on a sports board everybody has an opinion just like they have their shady parts-- but when an over the top opinion doesn't jive with what i see and what is conclusively against the stats and, MOST importantly counter to the best course to barca winning titles i am going to do my best expose it. Sorry if doing that gets you bent out of shape but that aint my issue, thats on you.

Truth is both busi and rakitic are our best midfielders at the moment. They have limitations but so do the alternatives. What do you think what you says for vidal (older than both, also had become slower then he was), who isnt as skilled or as smart as player as either.

Also when terms like the utterly ridiculous"toxic" are used, someone is trolling

busi brainpower ? ?

this is not 2012 anymore, stop forcing this cliche......

it is what a lazy pundits who don't watch barca matches say about busi.

most overused word to describe player living of his status. xavi n iniesta are not coming back, busi is not suited for midfield of a modern football.

imagine if gomes was starting every match and playing like a current busi. a mob would form calling for his head even more than usual.

modern dm can :

-defend & tackle
-crazy stamina
-long shots
-good physique
-fast
-fighting spirit/attitude
-good in air
-cover lots of ground
-etc etc........

both vidal and raki has some of those attributes. busi none so fans and pundits call him genius

busi was perfect dm and suited for pep tiki-taka. game passed him by.......

Rakitic of 14-16 I considered pretty underrated.

But I wasn't a fan of the "No one could have replaced Xavi as Rakitic did" by some of the Barca Fanbase. The CL failings we had since the treble season highlighted that we did in fact needed a CM in the Vein of Xavi, someone who can resist the press and control the flow of the game. Lucho tried with Iniesta and Busi, but the former was getting old and more injury prone.

Valverde tried to do that with Rakitic by pairing him up in the Double pivot with Busi, to help combat Iniesta's aging legs. It worked mostly in the league but in the CL the flaws in that setup became apparent vs Chelsea and Roma where Rakitic struggled massively in those games.

Rakitic at his best could do a number of things but expecting him to fill in as a Pseudo Controller is not one of them.
