Whenever you feel after the game that raki was horrible don't let that distract you from the fact that this guy is who bbz defends day in and day out.
Why don't we get rid of him honestly? He isn't a legend like Iniesta that we let him play even his decline, nor is he la masia which would have explained the obsession, nor is he brazilian. Da fuck.
I defend him because:
1. even today, he is still useful when other options are:
Puig
Or forever injured Arthur
And all that is left is: equally as old and declined Busi, good Frenkie and hot and cold granny (even older) Vidal
2. for the future, a lot of people here wanted to sell BOTH Raki and Vidal and play with a mighty Frenkie, Busi, Arthur, Puig, Alena midfield where basically in Busi, Arthur, Alena and Puig you get the same type of midfielders: technical, physically meh, where no one except Busi is any good at defending.
Imagine a spring of 2021 and you play in CL quarters away at Liverpool, City, Tottenham (or any EPL team who runs like crazy).
Which 3 midfielders would you field (when Raki and Vidal will be gone)?
= Frenkie, Arthur, Busi?
Without a ball, Arthur and Busi will be eaten alive.
Other options are Riki Puig, who is bullied by a team of 13 years old girls.
And then you have Alena, who is slightly stronger, technically weaker and equally as bad at defending.
So, even if you sell this old and finished version of Rakitic, we will need 1-2 midfielders of a similar type in the future.
Fine, feel free to find a player who both works, defends and creates (more technical workhorse or a babysitter).
But in 2021 or later, we surely won't be able to play with a rooster where all midfielders are more or less the same.
And please don't reply: our midfielders were similar during Xavi-Iniesta.
Well, when you have Xavi-Iniesta then there is no problem to have similar players of that quality.
But when you have normal players, like today, they you have just a one dimensional team consisted of meh midfielders and you don't have tactical options to turn the match or tactics around except making a player for player subs (where a sub is exactly the same as a player who got subbed off. Except that a sub is slightly fresher since he is coming from the bench).
Now, imagine Rijkaard's midfield rooster in 2006:
Xavi=a brain
Deco=more attacking brain
Iniesta=another brain
Edmilson=a physical&technical 186cm tall pivot
Marquez=another 184 cm physical CB-pivot
Motta=workhorse pivot-midfielder 186 cm
Van Bommel=187 cm, a crazy aggressive tackler bone-breaker leader pivot-midfielder
Now, would you rather have 6 Alenas/Puigs on a rooster or a combination of 3 Alenas and 3 Van Bommels/Mottas?
