Funny how the revisialisn has been twisted to

Ivan "Sevilla were better when he came on and would have scored the pen" Rakitic.

When in all likelihood it would be

Ivan "If he has started Barcelona would have score more" Rakitic.

And

Ivan "The man consumed the elixir of work rate from Ernesto Valverde" Rakitic

Horatio

You're welcome
I think people don't like him here because Raki seemed to overestimate his abilities and value. A lot of people will read that as arrogance if things don't go well.

Why are we still having this discussion? Rakitic is done due to age and I do rate him lower than Puig these days. Puig's workrate is actually high, which makes him a better workhorse :coffee:

Exactly. The guy had no ability to pass under pressure during the latter part of his tenure, and would often get targeted for that as well. Against Liverpool he couldn't run, he couldn't pass, and TWO GOALS can be directly traced to his mistakes. Next season he acts like he's irreplaceable and that Barcelona's committing a massive disrespect by placing him on the bench.

If it was just the lack of ability I wouldn't dislike him so much, but it's his complete arrogance and lack of self-awareness that makes him hard to like.

He was instrumental in our most embarrassing defeats in history, of course this forum hates him. If he had any ability to retain possession under pressure against Liverpool and Roma, we wouldn't have suffered those defeats.

We conceded 4 against Roma over 180 minutes and 4 against ultra strong Liverpool over 180 minutes with Rakitic on a field.
Since he left, we managed to break all records with conceding 8 against Bayern in only 90 minutes and we will concede 7-8 against Psg over 180 minutes (even without Neymar).

So, we went from conceding 8 goals in 360 minutes against Roma and Liverpool, which is one goal conceded each 45 minutes, or one per half.
And we went to: probably 16 goals in the next 270 minutes against Bayern and Psg, which is one goal each 16,8 minutes, which is almost 3 goals conceded per half.

Now, I am not an idiot and I know that a football is a team's sport.
But on one hand, isn't it fair to ask:
Why is Rakitic crucified for 8 goals in 360 minutes (1 goal per 45 minutes), yet current starters and the only players who managed to set negative records against Bayern and Psg are: Messi, Frenkie, Busi, Pique, Lenglet, Alba and Mats don't get as much hate, except the next scapegoats in line in Busi, Pique and Lenglet.

To make it simple, isn't is somewhat illogical:
Raki played surrounded by: Busi, Pique, Lenglet, Alba, Mats = Rakitic is guilty
Frenkie played surrounded by: Busi, Pique, Lenglet, Alba, Mats = Frenkie is not guilty. It's the team's fault. Poor guy couldn't do anything.

Yeah, I know, the whole team is 2 years older, but still, it is silly.
If, for some reason, Frenkie played at Anfield and if he would have played exactly the same as Raki, he would still get excluded.
Do you think that people would call him trash and the worst midfielder ever?
No.
Do you know why?
Because: (apart from being a good player), he is young.

Our fans have three main skills which they look for in players:
1. youth
2. being from La Masia
3. having Barca DNA traits

The more of these traits a player possess, the more unreasonable a hype will be, for example:
3 points:
Puig = young, from La Masia, Barca DNA skills
Alena, the same
Oriol Busquets, the same
2 points:
Arthur = young, Barca DNA skills
1 point:
Dembele, Malcom, Todibo, Mina = young
0 points, or more likely: negative points:
Rakitic = old, not from La Masia, doesn't possess Barca DNA skills

Now, just take player's skills:
If Raki had objective skills 70/100 (Fifa style), our forum would downgrade him to 50/100 due to being old and without Barca DNA skills
If Arthur had objective skills 60/100, our forum would overrate him to 90/10 due to being young and having some Barca DNA or Xavi traits.
If Puig had objective skills 50/100, our forum would also overrate him to 80/100 or 90/100 level due to having 3 GOLDEN traits: being young, being from La Masia, possessionbg some Barca DNA traits seen in Pep's days.

Also, the same applies for off field things:
If Raki cries = he is a shit, we hate him
If Arthur does drugs, drives scooters, gets STDs, parties with Neymar, has a horrible fitness = majority will say: media hates him for no reason, that is a lie.
rumors about Puig = Riki leaks lineups, whines to media about not playing and similar = media is lying. And even if it's true, people don't hate him, since he possess 3 golden traits.
Again, when Raki cries = the biggest cancer and the whiner ever.

For a second, let's say that all of these players: Rakitic, Dembele, Arthur, Puig made the same amount of random off field drama/problems/media mistakes/whining.
If you apply my rule about 3 golden traits, let's answer:
Which out of these 4 was the most hated for his off field mistakes and whining?
And which other 3 were defended for months against any rumor about them?

So, is the treatment the same?
No, even on field and off field, it is quite simple and predictable whom will majority of fans like, overyhpe, defend till death and which kind of players will get way too much hate for anything they do.

No matter how many dissertations you write, it won't change the fact that Rakitic's individual errors led to several of Liverpool's goals.

Rakitic was great but the dude got annoying as fuck with his fucking whining and moaning during and beyond the 16/17 Season and the day he left.

Every fucking time he got benched for a period of time he went to the Media to whine about how unjust it was and blah blah blah and acted like there was no way FDJ was going to take his spot. Like damn, the guy let the success get to his head and thought he was untouchable even though he had some bad performances.

Of course people are more prone to be forgiving against talented players.

Alba and Suarez have been cunts all their careers, from young age, to prime, to decline.
It's when the decline hits when these antics become extra annoying.

When Suarez was playing like shit and still complaining to teammates, putting more energy on refs and opponents rather than improving himself, of course fans react they way we've been doing. Same with Rakitic, shit on pitch, shit off it.

Busi is at the same doorstep, pretty bad on the pitch. BUT he's quiet off it, he doesn't put gas on the fire. He's criticized by many, if not all, for his skills.
If he at this point starts complaining and shows arrogance, people will treat him the same way as Rakitic and Suarez.

Because first and foremost we judge players on their skills. Personality is secondary. If you have none of those, you're an easy target for double the amount of criticism.

There is a simpler rule to follow in order to understand the criticism he gets here.
- Is he supported by BBZ while others get shit on consistently even though they are better? Yes.
- Did he go partying the next day after liverpool game where he was instrumental in loosing? Yes
- Did he constantly whine when not playing 90m per game? Yes.

Suarez got shit on after dropping his form and all his bad habits were exposed.
Busi gets shit for years.
Pique gets shit for years.
Alba gets shit for years.
Messi gets shit for years.

All these players are far superior in every single thing compared to Rakitic and some are actual legends of the club. But no defense is mounted for them by you, and nor should it. No one is beyond criticism.

I have to wonder at this point, what makes Rakitic special.
Could it be that he is croatian and you are extremely biased by this and all other justifications and assertions you make are only superficial.

Just a thought.
