How is it a bad take? Neymar's signing was scandalous, and completely shattered the market.

It is a bad take because you are quoting me responding to that PL chart.

In the context, your take about Neybapp? is bad because the number 1 figure in PL transfer happened even before PSG went berserk. And if you look carefully, the spending there are consistent with their financial muscle and not Neybapp? deal.

A Maguire for example cost 80 million because with PL TV money, Leicester had lot of money and wouldn't cave in unless MU broke the bank. Same happened with Mahrez to City.

Today, a "broke" clun like Arsenal had to fight hard to get a newbie like Ben White from Brighton for 60 millions.

It is a simple inflation following club revenues. Neymar to PSG = Zidane to Real if equalised to the club budgets.

I have already explained my viewpoint. From the beginning, football was won thanks to money (Madrid buying Kopa, first french player leaving the country like that and considered a traitor at the time). After time pass and success is acquired, fans will romanticize the club with their "history", "legacy" or whatever and deny the same to the new players. Chelsea were hated at the time and nowadays, everyone forget about them and focus on City and PSG because they are the new kids on the block.

Who is hating on Berlusconi Milan ? No one, it is considered a great club. You just need to actually win the trophies to be accepted. So far, PSG and City have failed to do that.

For sure this is true, but I think you're turning a blind eye on how distasteful PSG is in doing this. I've been around with Moratti's Inter, Berlusconi's Milan, Abramovich's Chelsea and so on. And PSG are by far the most obnoxious new-rich of the lot. Not even City matches them for sheer arrogance and flamboyance.

People don't hate PSG because they have money and invest and try to win things and build a top team. They hate them because they do it while bragging about. If football is Hollywood, PSG would be the Kardashians for me, no offense.

I'll give you another example serghei. Look at Italy market. A guy like Tonali went for a very low fee (loan actually) while he was the new hype. Locatelli is close to Juve for some 34 millions (after a loan of 2 year).

Quite different cuz italian clubs are broke. Neybapp? didn't influence their market.

Funnily enough, PSG despite the bigger numbers had less of a free pass than those guys before.

 State of football is this guy goes for over 100m.

Before the oil clubs ruined the game this guy is legit 18-20m signing .

If we are talking pre Man City takeover but after the Chelski takeover in 2003, then yes he?s ?18 million. But in today?s market ?100 million is fair, he?s top quality.

Top transfer fees.
Too easily complaint is made about the oil clubs. But look at the top transfer fees. Oil clubs were not all the teams inflating prices to buy.
I support City. They are number 25 on the list. If they have bought 4 or 5 defenders at 40,50, 60 m so what. They have the money, they are not in debt and the money stays in football.
The point to debate is player wages, that money goes out of football. That is where FFP got it totally wrong.
KDB top wages at City 18m.
City are a well run club, and I hope they do not pay 100m for Grealish.. That saddens me. But it is not City that have inflated the market. Please do not put them in the same bracket as PSG.

1 Neymar Barcelona - PSG 2017 ?222m
2 Kylian Mbappe Monaco - PSG 2017 ?145m (+?35m)
3 Joao Felix Benfica - Atletico Madrid 2019 ?126m
4 Philippe Coutinho Liverpool - Barcelona 2018 ?120m (+?40m)
4 Antoine Griezmann Atletico Madrid - Barcelona 2019 ?120m
6 Ousmane Dembele Borussia Dortmund - Barcelona 2017 ?105m (+?45m)
6 Paul Pogba Juventus - Manchester United 2016 ?105m
8 Gareth Bale Tottenham - Real Madrid 2013 ?100.8m
9 Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid - Juventus 2018 ?100m
9 Eden Hazard Chelsea - Real Madrid 2019 ?100m (+?40m)
11 Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United - Real Madrid 2009 ?94m
12 Gonzalo Higuain Napoli - Juventus 2016 ?90m
13 Harry Maguire Leicester City - Manchester United 2019 ?87.1m
14 Neymar Santos - Barcelona 2013 ?86.2m
15 Romelu Lukaku Everton - Manchester United 2017 ?84.8m
16 Virgil van Dijk Southampton - Liverpool 2018 ?84.5m
17 Luis Suarez Liverpool - Barcelona 2014 ?82.3m
18 James Rodriguez Monaco - Real Madrid 2014 ?80m
18 Kepa Arrizabalaga Athletic Club - Chelsea 2018 ?80m
18 Lucas Hernandez Atletico Madrid - Bayern Munich 2019 ?80m
18 Romelu Lukaku Manchester United - Inter 2019 ?80m
22 Nicolas Pepe Lille - Arsenal 2019 ?79m
23 Alvaro Morata Real Madrid - Chelsea 2017 ?78.9m
24 Zinedine Zidane Juventus - Real Madrid 2001 ?77.5m
25 Matthijs de Ligt Ajax - Juventus 2019 ?75m (+?10.5m)
25 Kevin De Bruyne Wolfsburg - Manchester City 2015 ?75m
Bet 365

In last 5 years spend:
Manchester City 560.66m
Manchester United 497.88m
But in EPL Arsenal spend 308m
Aston Villa 254m
Everton spend 255m
Transfermarkt

City spend only 10% more than United. City have the money. Are playing catch up and are not inflating the market in prices or wages. They are successful. Three Premiership out of 4. Numerous Carabao cup and finally made the final of CL. They have something to show for their money.

Aye but this is just a Qatari thing mainly. Bedouin's given lots of money and competing with the rest of the Bedouin's to have the tallest building.

They are the ones up there and ignored living on that spec of dust who somehow managed to collect a lottery ticket too. And because the rest of the Arab tribes still look down on them they try to flex biggest on the international stage in whatever they do. Covering this up with arrogance.

It's why KeyLeaf responded so poorly with Barcelona trying to sign their players before and responded with angry counter bids. LBS. Little Bedouin Syndrome.

City may not have inflated the market much, PSG certainly did though, completely destroyed what was left of sanity in the market.
Now clubs are demanding 50-100 mill for average players, its just silly.

I agree with you concerning PSG. But City are not PSG and should not be tarred with the same brush, if you excuse the pun.

If Grealish is signed for 100m then they’re no different than PSG. Still they’ve thrown money around in just as ridiculous fashion. City have the largest spend since pep arrived. That’s despite them already having key players in the squad: Aguero, Silva, Kompany, Fernandinho, De Bruyne + a bunch of other high quality players. They’d reached the ucl semi final the season before

Huge difference to PSG.

100m is too much for Grealish but still less than Pogba to United.

Only a huge difference if you look at it in the specific way you’re looking at it. Every single club in the world knows city frequently pay 50-70m for players even if said players are average. This raises the price of the market. PSG’s signings also raised the price in the market. 2 things can be true at the same time.

PSG is the worst of the lot for me. Sure, City, and Chelsea before them, are doing similar stuff on the whole, but with more class and more football nous. For example, neither CL win by Chelsea was obtained with PSG's obnoxious model, neither 2012 or 2021, both are great underdog stories of fighting hard against all odds. Chelsea has an identity that exists outside of the spending stuff, that's the point. And I felt that when they played Barca too, signing superstars was never their calling card, for me at least. PSG don't have it, they are what they spend. That's how the Qataris made sure they are seen by the way they handle themselves.

Does anyone wonder how PSG will win CL when they will win it? They will basically spend their way to a CL. Buying and buying and buying until they will inevitably buy their way to the CL title. It's all pretty distasteful. These clowns sacked Tuchel, a top 3 manager... to preserve their galactico way of flamboyant superstars acting like spoiled brats. When in fact they should've seized that moment and built a real team around a world-class manager, rather than being seen as some sort of plastic football-equivalent of Harlem Globetrotters, buffoons that win fuck all when the pressure is on.

It's like they try to copy Barca and Madrid non-stop and achieve that status in record time, but end up only copying their worst parts.
