People say he's very marketable based on his looks but it's really simplistic way of looking at things...Rooney is very marketable but he has very little going for him in the looks department...Playing in the same team as Ronaldo will also diminish his commercial appeal....I rate him very highly as a player but the world cup performance was above his actual level

If he plays as well as he did in the WC, then of course he'll be worth the money, a 23 year old Golden Boot winner despite only reaching the quarterfinals will have a field day next to Ronaldo or Bale. He doesn't seem like someone who will choke and fail under the pressure, so in my opinion he's better than Di Maria and a good signing. Kroos, however, is a different story.

Yeah, someone who has proved himself time and time again, instead of just being a one-tournament wonder, clearly is a different story.

Football is a business tho.

RM makes tons and tons of money via shirts and other products.

Also, RM players are present in Mode medias here in France. That gives massive exposure, especially among women that buy lots of those magazines.

Di Maria's only great season was his last one, before that (and even during last season) he was wildly inconsistent and had as many good games as bad ones. Just look at him in the World Cup, he was quite poor until his late goal against Belgium, and then he pretty much instantly got injured. Signing Rodriguez is a risk, but a justifiable one in my opinion.

Well you have to look at who he played, don't you? He scored 4/6 goals against poor, poor sides in the form of the Ivory Coast, Japan, and Greece. The only truly great goals he had were against Uruguay.

He was having one hell of an awesome season back in 11/12 before he got injured.

Sorry Semi, but this is pretty ridiculous. James has proven very little aside from having a good 5 game stretch in the WC, and high potential in his early club career. Definitely not worth €90M+ right now, nor better than a proven performer and winner like Di Maria. Not yet.

This is a marketing ploy by Florentino. This is a business move first, football move second. The guy is very marketable right now and I fully expect RM to have secured at the very least 40-50% of the kids image rights with his 6 year contract and intend to fully exploit it. I do think he is very talented and will do well at Madrid, but Di Maria is also talented and already proven there, the only difference is marketability.
