James Rodriguez

Sorry Semi, but this is pretty ridiculous. James has proven very little aside from having a good 5 game stretch in the WC, and high potential in his early club career. Definitely not worth €90M+ right now, nor better than a proven performer and winner like Di Maria. Not yet.

Agreed. He's a good player. But he's not worthy of being the third most expensive player of all time.

Di Maria's only great season was his last one, before that (and even during last season) he was wildly inconsistent and had as many good games as bad ones. Just look at him in the World Cup, he was quite poor until his late goal against Belgium, and then he pretty much instantly got injured. Signing Rodriguez is a risk, but a justifiable one in my opinion.

Sorry Semi, but Di Maria has averaged 9 goals and almost 22 assists per season with RM, that is hardly inconsistent. He had virtually the exact same season this year that he had in 10-11. Di Maria is a proven performer at Madrid and a great support system for Ronaldo.

Bertus said he was one of the best players in Ligue 1, that despite playing for Monaco. Again, Di Maria is the more reliable player and there is definitely an element of risk, but in my opinion it's justifiable.

People say he's very marketable based on his looks but it's really simplistic way of looking at things...Rooney is very marketable but he has very little going for him in the looks department...Playing in the same team as Ronaldo will also diminish his commercial appeal....I rate him very highly as a player but the world cup performance was above his actual level
Rooney is marketable but because of him looking like a troll, you won't find him as often in Mode medias as some players from RM, especially Ronaldo.

In France, it's not a conicidence if many women know who Ronaldo is while many are clueless about Rooney or even sometimes (i'm trying to be polite but i should say "often") Messi.

James is the kind of players that will appear a lot in those Mode/women magazines, just like Ronaldo. That will increase exposure for the player, but also to RM, obviously.

As much as it hurts to admit it, the 90M they spent will get back in no time during those 6 years contract.

As said above, it's also a marketing ploy. They need to find new young very marketable figures as Ronaldo is hitting his 30.

Oh please. 9 goals and 12 assists in Ligue 1 doesn't justify his price.

Hermel kind of agree with you i think.

He kept repeating it's not a coincidence if Di Maria got the nickname of "chicken with no head", because he's famous to often make the wrong choices on the pitch.

If he was consistent over the years, he would never have gotten that horrible nickname.

Per ESPN

For Real Madrid:
In 13-14, Di Maria had 12 goals, 23 assists
12-13, 11 goals, 11 assists
11-12, 7 goals, 18 assists
10-11, 9 goals, 14 assists

Seems like last season was clearly his best...

This is what I got:

----------La Liga-----------------CdR------------------UCL--------------Total-------
--Year-----GP---G---As------GP--G---As----------GP--G---As----------GP--G----As-
2010–11---35---6---16 -------8---0---7-----------10---3---3----------53---9----26
2011–12---23---5---16 -------2---0---0-----------7----2---1 --------32---7----17
2012–13---32---7---12 -------9---2---2-----------11---0---4 --------52---9----18
2013–14---34---4---18 -------7---4---2-----------11---3---6 --------52---11---26

11-12 he was indeed on pace for a monster season if he could have played more games.

Florentino and Madrid's PR team are going to have to tell James to take it easy with the Barca love.
