According to The Guardian, Man Utd could have got him, he was offered to them for 5m pounds before he went to Porto, but they instead bought Bebe for 7m pounds.

i am sure he was offered around to lots of big clubs, so united are not the only ones who missed out, big clubs get offered south american players all the time and most of them don't turn into world beaters so it is a non story really, as a columbian youngster coming from argentina he probably wouldn't of gained a work permit to play in england anyway, which is why so many promising south americans end up at porto...

Do you think Barca could outbid the €€€ clubs in the race for his signature?:p I think such scenario is improbable.
Oil clubs are not able to throw money around anymore. You spend as much as you gain.

That;s true, it's all about selling papers and getting clicks.

Having said that in 3-4 years team Messi could be handing his throne over to someone like Neymar or maybe even Rodriguez.
Rodriguez doesn't have DNA to be the best player in the world, Neymar and Hazard do

he will be elite though, among the best, but not the best.

Up until now the so called financial fair play is still short circuited by those money clubs. But you forgot about the greatest money club ever, R€al

Maybe but we're not joining a bidding war anyway, another AM is not needed.

TF1 had sources from Monaco board that James will not be sold this summer anyways, so all those discussions are moot. They are way too silent and vague about Falcao tho.

Monaco is still rich despite the FFP. They just can't spend 100M euros again this year because of it.

Monachello (Monaco): "I played endless Fifa games with James Rodriguez. He always chose Barça. I took Madrid, so we played clasicos." [gdm]

What's that supposed to mean?

He has 5 goals and 2 assists so far in this world cup. Messi has 4 and the less said about Ronaldo's world cup the better. Now I still think Messi will get the golden boot but James has already put himself up there.

Ultimately you can have the most amazing club career but unless you do it at the World Cup you'll never be known as one of the greats. This kid as already done that and he's only 22.

"From what I have seen, he is the best player in the World Cup," said Tabarez."I am not exaggerating, he is a great striker."

Tabarez placed Rodriguez among the greats of the game following his match-winning performance.
"For me, talents are those who do things that have nothing to do with their life experience," Tabarez said.

"Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez - they do things because they have a certain gift which makes them special."
Pekerman added: "In my long experience in football, I've had extraordinary footballers in my teams, elite players of a very high technical level.

"What is most surprising is that, at his young age, he does not have any problem doing things football players take many years to understand."
