James Rodriguez

I think were getting ahead of ourselves..sure he has scored magnificent goals, but every sport has a breakout athlete, Ill name an example: Basketball

Anyone who watches basketball will be familiar with Jermey Linn, nobody knew this kid, he was just a nobody in the NBA when all of the sudden he turned into a superstar overnight in the New York knicks, he was posting up stellar numbers.. And you know what happened? He went to another team and since then he has returned back to reality.

I think James is one of those stories, while it is nice seeing him breakout, I highly doubt he could ever be a superatar like Suarez, Messi, and Ronaldo.

I honestly didnt even know who he was before this WC, usually you start to hear stories about cracks when there young.

Wat. He was one of the stars of the great Porto team with Hulk and Falcao. I haven't seen him play for Monaco but he has been a very promising young talent for several years now. Comparing him to lin is absurd. James didn't just score a wonder goal out of nowhere. He was Colombias best player in all of their group stage matches. He has great dribbling and passing.

He was not a star at Porto. lol He was playing on the wing and playing average football. He's only shining now after being moved central.

hmm okay, Ive heard how nutty portos team was when falcao was there, but I never really watched them.

What do you think his ceiling is then?

Nobody will be as good as Messi but James can be one of the top 10 players in the world in the future. Neymar, Gotze, James, Hazard, etc will be fighting for balon d'ors. Only if he goes to a real club, though. Such a waste at Monaco.

Lol what???

He won:
LPFP Award for Breakthrough Player of 2011–12 Primeira Liga
Portuguese Golden Ball award in 2012 at the age of 20. The youngest to do so.

2011–12: 26 appearances/13 goals/5 assists
2012–13: 22 appearances/10 goals/6 assists

He was one of Porto's best players and most certainly not average.

Well not everyone goes on to be a star and all but that doesn't mean people can't be excited over a promising kiddo

I don't remember if it was exactly during the World Cup but yes.
I think I remembered some hype after his goal vs. France. Personally I wasn't that impressed. He did show some nice pace and good finishing but I can't remember much about his playmaking. And the most important of all, I don't think he was the man who carried Mexico through all those matches.
I think James is better since he is vital for Columbia NT, unlike Chicharito. However, I'm not buying that he will be the next Messi, CR7 or even Suarez. I do believe that he may be the next Kun or Falcao though.

According to The Guardian, Man Utd could have got him, he was offered to them for 5m pounds before he went to Porto, but they instead bought Bebe for 7m pounds.

That;s true, it's all about selling papers and getting clicks.

Having said that in 3-4 years team Messi could be handing his throne over to someone like Neymar or maybe even Rodriguez.
