Average player like Martinez breaks German transfer record. They've really lost the plot.

Bayern is in panic mode. 2 lost CL finals, two straight defeats in a league they usually dominate. Not too dissimilar to every half a decade for Madrid.Throwing money at a problem in football does fix it most of the time so. I just don't think Martinez is worth it. For that money they could have purchased a great DM and a very solid CB.

Bayern are usually very smart with their purchases. If they're paying as much as they are, then it's because what he'll bring them will be worth every penny.

Who knows, they might even consider him the replacement of Schweinsteiger. If that's the case it's deeply disturbing

It's clear that Javi wants to go to Bayern. I don't know why clubs always make transfers difficult. I guess they like the drama.

Way too much. He's a good player but not anything near what Cesc and Villa are worth.. Hope he does well though.

Does anyone know where he will play? C/DM or CB?

I am very interested to see how this works out 40m Euros is a lot of money. I am expecting him over the season to basically cement either one of the CM/DM positions and also play at the back when needed. If we are lucky we will see Jupp Heynckes play with some completely different formations thanks to the purchase of JM

It's a known fact that Bilbao don't sell. Money from player sales don't incentivies them as much as other teams. Any team would have been very glad to get 40 mil for Martinez but Bilbao aren't simply because of their Basque only policy even with the money they can't replace him.

Any other team would have been laughing to the bank.

Sucks for Bilbao though. Well they do have youth development. What can you do. Javi wanted to leave and go to Bayern. Bayern wanted him. Only Athletic refused. Some clubs really have to see REALITY and let their players go. The drama is so unnecessary.

Athletic is a trainwreck right now. Llorente and Martinez listened to offers and the club attacked them for it, forcing them out further. Really sad to see one of the few economically solvent clubs in Spain destroy themselves this way, especially a club that can't replace players that easily.
