RB Leipzig are expected to lose Upamecano and Konate in this summer and want to bring in Todibo to reinforce their defense. J.C.Todibo is one of the Barcelona's more bankable players and could cost around 30 million euro.

Shit source.

Leipzig would never agree to a buy-back, it makes 0 sense for them. First option at best.

I know it's very unlikely but setting a buy-back at around 60-70m could do it.

Let's say Todibo's price is about 20m and they value Upamecano at 50m (a middle ground between 40 and 60m). So we would pay 30m + Todibo.

Now if Todibo would develop great in RBL we could get him back in 2-3 years. RBL would get 40-50m for his development. I think they could accept that.

From our standpoint this is far from ideal but remember before this corona crisis we've negotiated a deal that could pay Schalke 25-30m for one or two year development of Todibo if we would decide to bring him back. But in that case we wouldn't get anything back except having some money we could spend right away on a forward we don't need.

With my proposed swap we would get a very talented young CB which would make a (temporarily) "loss" of Todibo less painful. We would actually sell/swap one of our younger players for the sake of improving the team and not just financial gain. Todibo would probably also develop better in a better club (compared to Schalke) who is known for their good handling of young players and with arguably the best young coach in the world so this deal could benefit all three parties. It would require some creativity and tough negotiations but I think it could be done.

Of course in ideal world we would forget about Lautaro and buy Upamecano (and a good strong midfielder) with "his" money, keep Todibo and sell Umtiti (or just loan him to get rid of his wages). I think we would be a much better team having Pique-Upamecano (Todibo-Lenglet) in defense than another 100m forward who will be misused but we know this won't happen so I'm trying to look for the next best alternative.

I know people might disagree about paying 60-70m in future for a player we have now for cheap but

1. IF Todibo would develop into a worldclass CB in 2-3 years and we wouldn't have that option we would probably need to pay even more for a player of similar quality on the open market. On the other hand if he won't develop to that level for whatever reason and never be good enough to return we would at least use him to get another CB who could stay here longterm.

2. I don't think we can really develop his full potential (whatever that is, he might not be as good as people think) because he won't play regularly as long as Pique is here and you can't progress without playing every week. Remember Todibo is still a very raw player who has only played around 20 First division games in his career. In comparision, Upamecano who is only a year older already has almost 100 appearances in Bundesliga.

 This should be easiest player to handle. Just bring him back and play him. Pique needs to be phased out. Guy is 34 next season. He's done as a starter.

Todibo - Lenglet. Go for it. Play them in the easy games at first and see how it goes from there.

Todibo played against Sevilla at home and we beat them 4-0. Then played in a makeshift defense that beat Inter away facing two of the best forwards in Europe at the time. He can play. Why is everybody acting as if we'll suddenly lose games we'd otherwise win if we play these players. At worst they make no impact. It's not like Todibo plays and scores 3 own goals or makes 2 pens. a game. At worst he'll make errors just like our CBs have been making them all year, considering our crap defensive record in La Liga.

Considering our problems with aging players who are crap physically, we should be looking to integrate players like Todibo ASAP.

Whenever I've seen him play he just seems like a cdm to me. Likes to hold on to the ball and try wrong-foot the opponent to gain an advantage and push forward, he plays a bit like how Mascherano played for us at cb. Rarely see him just keep it simple and play a pass like a CB needs to do. Still he has time to learn. He's athletic and pacey which is what we need but he gets so drawn into the game leaving space in behind.

I agree but who will tell Pique it's time to leave/retire? :D

TBH I'm actually ok with Pique starting next season (he just needs a faster and more athletic partner instead of Lenglet and that's why I'm pushing for signing Upamecano; maybe he could work well with Todibo as well though I don't think he's as fast as Upamecano) and think Busi and Suarez should be phased out of the lineup before him (tbh, I believe Pique is probably the most "realistic" among those three and also has many other interest outside of football so I could actually see him retiring in 2021 or 2022. Busi and Suarez are bigger problems because they still think they are what they once were and should be undisputable starters. I won't even start to talk about Alba who is even more delusional and has 4 more years on his contract ). I still don't see Pique easily give up on his spot to some unproven kid what Todibo is at this point. But Todibo should still get a chance and start in around 30% of the games. Sadly don't see this happening though. He is one of the players who can bring us decent money and will be sold so we can buy a forward and we'll go into next season with Pique-Lenglet as starters. Well, Setien prefers Umtiti over Lenglet for some reason but he won't stay fit for more than 2-3 games anyway. Araujo will be a 4th CB on paper but because of Umtiti's injuries he'll probably be our CB on the bench in most games. I like Araujo and hope he'll surprise if/when given a chance but I don't think he's ready for that role so we'll probably all pray Pique and Lenglet will be available for important games. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we'll try to sign another Murillo on loan in January or whenever next season's winter transfer window will be. Let's hope I'm wrong and those rumours from a few days ago about Setien wanting to evaluate Todibo in pre-season before we make a final decision about him are true. I don't think he's a world beater but he at least deserves a fair chance before we give up on him. If Setien will decide he also doesn't seem him in his plans for the next season then sell/loan him but in that case better buy another good CB (for which we don't have money though ).

I wonder why so many clubs in Europe are looking to sign him? Could it be that he actually has potential, but we as a club are stupidly looking to sell him out right, if a club doesn't want to take him on loan or with a reasonable payback clause, then he stays it's that simple.

Want to generate some money this summer? Sell

Vidal, rakitic, fipro for cut rate prices,
Send saurez & busquets to china
Damn sell legnet, he ain't good enough anyways and we could get a decent price for him & trying to buy a pacey CB.

What you don't do is sell a young player who might actually have a bright future in football, to sign yet another forward.

I was relieved when Schalke didn’t have the money to buy him.

Now we are going to sell him out right. Total cash grab from the get go.

I would give him a chance. We are strapped for cash. We don’t need to make another galatico signing. Just keep the fucking guy.

I agree 100% with you. I am sure a CB rotation of Todibo, Lenglet and Araujo won't be that bad at all and they will gain experience playing together. But, we still need to add another one to that group. If that one can be Upamecano or Konate, great. If not, someone like Ruben Dias or someone else can also help.

"Who will tell Pique it's time to leave/retire?"

The president of FC Barcelona - Josep Maria Bartomeu and/or his right hand Eric Abidal. If they can't say that then we have to wait another two years untill his contract expire.

I wonder why so many clubs in Europe are looking to sign him? Could it be that he actually has potential, but we as a club are stupidly looking to sell him out right, if a club doesn't want to take him on loan or with a reasonable payback clause, then he stays it's that simple.

I have already watched 2-3 games with Schalke04 and Todibo looks very solid as a CB. "Rory" is right that at moments, he likes to leave his zone and move forward but that can be fixed here with a solid coach in charge. Or, maybe he really has the talent to play as a defensive midfielder! That is even better, since we are looking for another CDM to partner with Frenkie. They can be our CDM tandem of the future.

As of generating some money we have Neto,Umtiti, Firpo,Cucurela, Rakitic, Rafigna, Alena,Vidal, Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann. From the sale/loan of these players we can get some good amount of cash.

I was relieved when Schalke didn’t have the money to buy him.

I was relieved too. I wan't this guy to stay with us and have a proper chance to improve and show his true abilities. But, at the same time we need two new CB's and if RB Leipzig are willing to take Todibo plus cash for Upamecano or Konate, I'll do it in a heartbeat.

Alot of clubs seem to want him.

I am happy to give him a chance here along with Araujo

Pique Lenglet Araujo Todibo is fine for next season imo

No dude. It is not fine. Pique and Lenglet have proved that they are very weak as a CB's. We need at least one world class player at the back. In the perfect world, if we can land Upamecano for Lenglet and Alena plus some cash, I'll pair Upamecano with Todibo as a starters and have Pique and Araujo as their subs. But that is a pipe dream of course.

We actually have a quality cb and this idiotic fucking board want to sell because they can actually make some decent money. There's a reason other clubs want Todibo. It's because he can play.
Instead our board are happy to have grandpa Pique and weak ass Lenglet as CBS. Then you have a crock Umtiti and unknown Arajuo as back up.
Fuck Barto and Abidal.
