Joan Laporta

All candidates based their agenda on extending Messi's contract. Laporta won based mainly on his previous tenure as president and the fact he's in good relations with huge part of the people associated with Barca, current and former.

Messi had no relationship with the likes of Font or Freixa. He knew Laporta, was on good terms with him and supported him in his previous candidacy.

Font did say 'the world wont end if Messi leaves' and Freixa stated Messi would have to take a pay cut to stay.

Laporta made vague winks about him being only one Messi would stay for and specifically mentioned the relationship he had with him.

All had Messi renewal as a big part of their campaigns. Only one claimed his personal relationship would be a factor and other two were more realistic on it.

Like Messi would ever get involved with this bum again. Won him the elections and then fucked him over with false promises. Was evident that the Messi camp felt let down by Laporta and didn't want to be associated with him anymore. Don't know why it still surprises people that the two parties don't see each other eye to eye.

Vague?

He hugged Messi's jersey and said he'll make him an offer he can't refuse. Then he kicked him out after telling the fans to remain calm for months

I said vague links about him being only one who could make Messi stay as if his personal relationship was that crucial.

When in reality that had no impact it was all bollocks.

People are bitter and angry Messi was forced out of the club due to financial rules in La Liga, including myself. But I prefer to move on, not looking for scapegoats. As reported both sides reached a deal on Leo's contract, La Liga said NO and Messi felt betrayed by Laporta, which is normal.

On football side this Messidependencia thing had to end some day, sooner or later, it had been going on for the last 4 years. During that time our team played without much creativity, always the safety first option "pass to Leo" thing which got destroyed in big games. The rebuild at Barca has already started with Koeman and Xavi, and somehow postponing this thought until 2023 when Messi retired (probably) was more of a romantic thought centered on our greatest player ever legacy rather than the love for the club.

That is not the case.

Some feel bitter about how much shite was spoken about Messi renewal being on track and the lie being continued until last possible minute could be.

Pissed off Messi and leaves coaching staff with weeks to go with a team that has lost its best player and man team was built round.

That's it. It's not that Messi left. It's the manner in which it was conducted and general lack of communication and plan.
Koeman was left with his dick in his hand basically and then got all the blame for not getting the team to perform.
