Benfica denies negotiating the transfer of João Felix, but it doesn't carry weight given Atletico plans on paying his release clause. They also deny the report that Mendes will earn 30% of his €120 fee.

I wouldn't go to Atleti in his shoes. Difficult for an offensive talent to shine in their very defensive set-up.

This is such a risky transfer if I have ever seen one.

Don't get me wrong he's talented but man 120 Million on him to join a team that has been a well-known graveyard for Forwards/Wingers for quite some time. I'm guessing Atletico and Simeone think the price is worth it and he could be forged into a new younger and possibly better version of Griezmann.

But there's a chance that it could blow up in their faces.

Atleti have spent years building their squad level by level with a mix of good players and some elite players. The core they had is getting recycled now and I think they're trying to take one more step up by investing in a potential 'generational' talent to be the centerpiece. Paying 120m for a guy like Felix now means they view him like an Mbappe type pickup (maybe not quite that good, but they're def going all in here).

Joao Felix definitely looks legit. Because of Semedo I'm a bit apprehensive of the Portuguese league now but it's always a bad idea to just judge a player by the league they play in. That's what the likes of BBZ did with Arthur or FDJ.

Felix has shown his class in the Europa league, and shows a variety of skills. Good one touch play and holdup, great speed and 1v1 dribbling, and composed/powerful shooting. He's very raw from what I've seen but a coach like Simeone will help polish and motivate him just like he did with Griezmann.
