I think lots of people on this forum have not yet realised the sheer improbability/nigh impossibility of reproducing Xavi/Iniesta/Cesc/Messi...no matter how well our youth teams work...I believe it impossible for us to match our erstwhile world-class footballer production rate...

And I think you're tad exaggerating there, but nothing new there, eh?

First of all, what you're suggesting and quite boldly stating is a no-brainer really. Each player is unique in his own way and it's quite clear that reproducing the same players all over again just doesn't work out like that. Jonathan and Thiago have other traits to Xavi and Iniesta, and they might make their own name for themselves in the future, and not just be carbon copies of their "masters".

You do remember the time when Barça was about to sell Xavi due to him being "crap", right?" The fact is that it takes plenty of time to gain perfection. Just saying...

However, the level of your youngsters is still quite high and what we should do is that give them another 1-2 years to properly develop while still giving them out first team chances in bits and pieces. Throwing out a whole Barca B against Sevilla's first team was never going to work out. Mixing youngsters with plenty of more experienced players could have brought a different result.

Trequartista

The good
1-He wasnt bad at all at this match,he played in the Xavi role,he showed some nice passes, his vision was good but he didnt do soemthing special and he needs time to do those specials like picking up a key pass or controlling the tempo of the match, for a midfielder,20 years old is too young to do those things,we have seen the best out of Xavi since he was 29-30 years old
2-another point is that playing with Xavi andf Busquetes is not like playing with Keita and Romeu,If Xavi was playing with the kid we could have seen a far better JDS,even if Xavi was off form, his name would get the best out of his partner
3-The Comaprison with Cesc makes no sense because when Cesc was 20,he has been playing foe 3 years at EPL,I think that JDS needs a loan movement rightnow because chances at Barca isn not like chances at Arsenal or any other team, however,I don think that JDS will reach Cesc's level but he has the potential to become a very good player, now he should go out on loan,if not he should train with the first team, get some minutes at weaker matches with Xavi-Iniesta playing with him and he should play week in week out with then Barca B.

No one is saying we expect JDS or Thiago to be as good as Xavi, Iniesta or Messi! Hell, we are blessed with a golden generation there the likes of which only come through once every blue moon. If we used them as a yardstick for future youngsters then bloody hell, we would bring none through whatsoever!

I'm not convinced, I don't think he played as well in the 4-2-3-1 compared to taking on the Xavi role in the 4-3-3. He doesn't seem to be a great tackler and he is forced to play too deep in this formation to accommodate his skills.

Also, whats the deal with not having a first team number?
