Alba has been our best buy in the last 5 years. Something tells me that we would have completely ignored him as an option if he hadnt already been part of club in the past.

Alves is far superior than Alba in basically everything. Alba has 0 composure and hoofs the ball upfield under pressure. The difference of calmness in the backline in the few games when Abidal came back was like night and day. Alba's physical attributes match that of a 10 year old child. He's not only a midget but also a weak midget. Even his linkup play sucks. He's just "kick the ball 5 meters and run after it faster than the opponent" like Tello. And to top it off he has a terrible temper. Emery has converted him from a winger to a fullback just 2 or 3 seasons ago. We could just as well play Sanchez or Pedro as a fullback and gloat over their attacking skills.

Alves still gets hated for his shit form at the beginning of the season when he was fighting with injuries.

Agree with some of your points, but not all. Thing is, you are actually right that we could just use Pedro on RB and say "shit, he's fantastic going forward". Alba is great when we're on 100% and have like 80% possesion an our opponents don't have the ball on our half - but when things get tough he really gets run over like nothing, can't defend to save his life tbh. I would value a LB/RB who's first priority and skill is defending, going forward is just a plus - now we play 2 wingers as defenders.

Play Montoya at RB. Problem solved.

What about now? 2009 and 2010 are in the past.So because he was good back then is it an excuse for now? I dont think so

Up until last season Alves was probably one of the best RB's for like 5 seasons. He not only helped us through our most successful years ever, he was actually as important as Messi, Xavi, Busi and Iniesta those years. Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt, one more season before you all burn him. Some of you guys either just started to support Barca or you have a short memory. Focus on Alba instead who was just as bad, or actually worse, at defending than Alves is. Alves had CR and players his caliber in his pocket for 5 seasons AND was a threat going forward - can you say that about Alba? NO!

Valdes, Alba, Iniesta and Messi are nominated for the trophies of best goalkeeper, defender, attacking midfielder and forward in 12-13 Liga.

How the hell was Alba nominated for best defender

Simply judging by the fact that he played in a 'defensive' position, he had a great season that had little to do with how well he actually defended and focuses more on his attacking output. However in terms of actual defending (which the award should be commending) he was miles behind many other more deserving players.

It sounds kind of funny when you read "best defender", but they were probably voting for each position individually. So I'm guessing he was in the left-back category. And he really is the best left-back in La Liga, and further.

No he's not the best lb in la liga, Filipe Luis is the best lb in la liga.
