I want him sold very very badly. Don't get the praise he's getting in this game. The only thing I can praise him for is staying back, not interfering too much with our offensive play and letting Alves do his thing on the other side of the pitch. One of the main reasons why Alves' assist stats have declined so badly is because we're letting this clown have as many touches on the ball as Alves nowadays instead of buying a proper defensive leftback and giving Alves all the freedom in the attacking third. Which was how this team was running in its heydays and which is how this team should still be running. Some of the best performances in recent times in the CL had Alves owning the right flank (PSG, Milan, City, 2 of those official MOTM). Some of the worst had Alba panicking under pressure, losing his head or getting sent off.

I'm dreading the day we're going to see Montoya and Alba paired together as starting fullbacks. 2 run-of-the-mill cross, run and overlap fullbacks.

Can we promote Grimaldo already?

That's very harsh on Alba. Alba has had a big hand in many wins due to his offensive contribution. On the other hand, Alves running down the line and crossing the ball to the last row in the stands has nothing to do with Alba being there. Alves' biggest weakness is himself, Alba has nothing to do with Alves' bad performances. He was also in the field in the games you mentioned.

In addition, you never know with Alves. We don't know how long he'll keep on playing at the highest level, whilst Alba is young with a bright future.

Jordi Alba, who suffered a thigh injury, is likely to be available for the league game against Almeria on Sunday. #fcblive [md]

I like the current Jordi Alba. The one flying under the media radar, the one keeping his head down and working, and the one with the style outshining most on our squad. Go Jordi!

He still needs to improve his defensive abilities big time though

Needs consistency... can be the best or the worst player in a game. Great game today.
