As I suspected..... we'll go with what we've got.
Bartomeu is a lying piece of shit. I honestly believe he did leak that conversation between Messi and Koeman so it doesn't make him look like the bad guy, and probably to force Messi out. Barto doesn't give a shit if Messi leaves. He knows he's only got another 9 months left in the job, so he'll probably use Messi's salary and transfer fee to buy himself a nice boat or something. And people saying, "oh, he doesn't want to be the president who sold Messi." I doubt he cares about his "legacy." As I said, he's out of the job in 9 months anyway.
Why the hell would Messi stay? We're not going to win the Champions League any time soon. Our squad is old and average. Koeman is a decent manager, but he's never going to take us to the next level. We have no money to properly rebuild. If Messi stays, it's going to be more of the same.... or maybe even worse. If anything, Real Madrid will probably win the league by 15 points next season. I fully expect Real Madrid to improve their squad.
Messi is doomed either way. Even when Barto leaves and we get a new board by next June, we're still going to have no money to properly rebuild. We're still going to have average and old players on big wages. We're still going to need a world-class manager. In other words, it's going to take a long time for us to properly compete again at the highest level. Messi doesn't have the time, and he must know we're not going to win a Champions League in the 3 to 4 years.
People saying other clubs couldn't afford Messi. That's simply not true. I have no doubt we'd accept around 120m euros for Messi, given he's only got 1 year left on his contract and he's 33. It will also get his massive salary off the books. I'm sure Man City would easily pay the 120m euros.... and I doubt Messi would demand that kind of salary if it meant he's playing under Pep and competing at the top level again. Signing a big player like Messi would simply take your club to the next level, regardless of his age.
