@barcastuff: "Valencia attacker Juan Mata (23) has received an offer from Chelsea but for now he prefers to wait for an offer from Barcelona."
@barcastuff: "Family member Juan Mata: "Because of his playing style and although he was formed at Real Madrid, Mata was born to play at this Barça.""

What do u guys think of it? Should the club try to get him?
For me he seams perfect for your game - quick feet, good passing, very creative, works a lot. However, i think instead of looking for replacements, we should try to look for players who would bring something new to our game.

I'll go :mental:

We always tried for him... I think Pep will go for him again. But I think that Afellay would make him re-think about more options for wings. So may be he'll first check how Afellay adapts to the midfield role, which is his natural position in the first place.

BTW Mata means we have direct second option to rest MEssi. Pep tried Iniesta & AFellay both for that role but couldn't bring success. Mata's natural position is trequarista, so yeah I'd love him in our team. And also he can provide natural width option on the left. He's got a sweet shot. Always wanted us to buy him too

reeeeeaaaalllllyyyyy not convinced another short guy is the answer. I mean, we have 3 short guys running the show and 2 short guys and 1 normal guy backing them up. we could use either a big guy or at least a normal guy if we're adding to the front-line.

and isn't Mata a bit high profile as well? I mean, let's not go all Real Madrid on this situation.

Seems too good a player to come and not start...I like Mata and fits in quite well to the passing game of Barca's but does he add anything unique?...I don't see the need although I think he has a terrific left leg

If Fabregas supposedly can come to us... sure Mata can too. Not as high profile he is, moreover he's versatile enough to play in all the front 3 positions... so the rotation principle should in fact work better with Mata in the team than Fabregas.

Hekinda fires up against Madrid.... huge incentive I say :p

That makes a lot of sense and would come cheaper than Cesc but we know that regardless of the pros/cons, Cesc will always come ahead of Mata in a transfer priority list

Hi, its me..
interesting.

mata + cesc + sakho

but.

hes too good not to start.. hes probably better than pedro, and we dont really want to replace him.

As I said in the transfer rumours thread, I don't see the point of signing Mata or Sanchez or another big name player like that. Mata would be over €20m and isn't as good as our three starting forwards. Well, he may be a better individual than Pedro but Pedro works harder and is a better goalscorer.

Sakho/Botia, Aduriz, maybe Fabregas and promote a couple of the youth players is all we need do IMO.

Trequartista

The good
If the transfer rumors suggested by the media is right then it looks that it will be a disappointing summer for Barcelona
The Priority shall be a tall striker and there are quite many around,I can get Pep's and Tito's theory that with tall strikers movements are a bit restricted in attack but you always need a plan B
Once the team sign that Striker and if there is money left then we can see whether the team needs a skilful winger and buy a defender or recall Botia

No. No, no, no. He offers nothing new, nothing what-so-ever. We already bought a "back up" winger- his name is Afellay. Someone unique, one way of saying it, would be better. Why spend 20 mil + on a young, hardworking winger when we already have Pedro, and Afellay as a back up.

BTW Mata means we have direct second option to rest MEssi.

What?! Have you even watched Valencia? He's not a good goal-scorer (so not a replacement for Messi, in any sense) and he's DEFINATELY not better than Pedro.

Good player, but no thanks.

May be that's because he plays mainly as a left winger for Valencia!?
The sense that I said he is direct replacement for Messi is in their best position! For your information, Pep tried to play both Iniesta & Afellay the Messi's role but with little success not in terms of goals but in terms of overall play!! Mata would definitely be an alternative for Messi, surely won't bring as many goals... but neither will any other player in the world too

As I said, Pep will first evaluate how effectively Afellay fits in our mid field before going for a winger. Even with Cesc, I believe he'll check out on Afellay first. He did so on Thiago who passed with flying colors, it's Afellay turn. If he impresses in his natural position in our system, don't think we'll make the move for Fabregas

I don't understand your point: He'll play as a winger for us too, and in the process offer NOTHING new to what Afellay or Pedro can do. And if otherwise, why would we consider a guy who doesn't have much goal-scoring talent to replace Messi in his free-roaming, striker role?! It just doesn't make sense to me man, not at all.

Villa-Mata-Pedro. Who's going to score the goals?! Even Mata-Villa-Pedro (or even Pedro-Villa-Messi) wouldn't work for me- Villa doesn't have the pace, imo, to make it to the clever through balls in time to finish (we've seen that happen a MULTITUDE of times this season).

On the other hand- I agree with you. Afellay has great pace, so he can be a good winger....but he's best in an attacking midfielder role (a different approach than Iniesta). The thing is, neither Thiago or Afellay can really replace Xavi. Cesc, imo, is the only player capable of coming even close. He has a similar vision, maybe not the same, but he offers runs into the box and goal-scoring ability as well.

Fuck him if he moves to Barcelona. It will be another Eto'o case. I hope he goes to England.
