Unless Mata is played in the centre he'll be wasted pretty much wherever he goes. He drifts off to the wings during matches but he generally needs to keep to the centre to be most effective.

The only big-time player I see joining Barca anytime soon is a GK. Possibly a CB, but the new CB might well be more of a #4 type, and even that may not happen until after Puyol retires. Any other Barca jobs that might come open are not likely to attract big stars, because there will be very small chance of significant playing time.

Song was willing to accept that type of role, but he might not settle for playing that little for too long. Roberto, Tello and Montoya also might need to move on sooner or later.

Apparently Mata will not hand in a transfer request and fight for his place at the club. If he leaves I'd like to see him leave at the end of the season tbh.

Why would he want to fight for his place? He went from being Chelsea's top performer to dead wood on the bench. He wasn't a starter for Spain when he played tremendously and he sure as hell won't be now. I can see him pushing for a transfer in January to be honest. It's not like Mourinho will treat him the way he deserves to be treated all of a sudden. He doesn't fit his scumbag tactics.

I personally think Mata is a genius. How a club could see him as surplus to requirements just baffles the hell out of me.

I know Oscar, William, Hazard are 3 ferocious players that can operate on any of the LW/CAM/RW... but Mata is just magical.

Whoever gets him will be getting a Gem. He deserves better than fucking Chelsea. Scummy club.

Nah can't be that reason. Torres (if sold) will be sold due to a lack of goals.

Azpilicueta is there still. Will be be booted out? nope.

I pretty much agree with the article. Mata is awesome as hell, but each manager has their system, and our system requires all attackers to track back, and for Mata he loses his effectiveness big time when he has to work hard. Our best trio for this is Hazard/Oscar/Willian. Mata has gotten games, starting in the centre too, but he just can't get back into form, and I don't see him fitting this system. He shouldn't leave now though, it'd be a silly time to(it's not like he'd get much of a chance with Spain at the WC anyway, del Bosque doesn't like him), but tbh I've already accepted that Mata isn't part of our future anymore. I wish him well for the future.

What a waste of talent being stuck on the bench. Mourinho is an idiot as Mata was one of Chelsea's best players last season.
