Never thought Atletico would keep up their form this long. Signing Mata would be huge for them and only make them much stronger.

I pretty much agree with the article. Mata is awesome as hell, but each manager has their system, and our system requires all attackers to track back, and for Mata he loses his effectiveness big time when he has to work hard. Our best trio for this is Hazard/Oscar/Willian. Mata has gotten games, starting in the centre too, but he just can't get back into form, and I don't see him fitting this system. He shouldn't leave now though, it'd be a silly time to(it's not like he'd get much of a chance with Spain at the WC anyway, del Bosque doesn't like him), but tbh I've already accepted that Mata isn't part of our future anymore. I wish him well for the future.

but each manager has their system.

It's not that Del Bosque doesn't like Mata, it's just that Iniesta is better than him and Pedro&Navas are much better on the wings.

If Mata couldn't adapt at Mou's football, I seriously doubt that he could play for this Atletico.

Both managers have a strong defensive system that would require him to track back, but Simeone takes a very different approach from Mou in handling his players. Turan was able to adapt and become a defensive beast in his system while retaining his attacking brilliance, same deal with Koke and Oliver is currently learning that as well. Mata could easily learn under a manager like Simeone who is constructive with his players and knows how to get the best out of them.

Mata will definitely benefit under Simeone and play in a formation that actually suits him well. The completely free flowing 4-4-2 that they play would put him as RM/RAM with the constant option to drift to the center. The outside midfielders in Simeone's system never act as true wingers which is perfect for him.

How can Mata adapt to Mou's system when he is barely getting any chances to do so.

He has had chances and he hasn't taken them!

he started 6 out of 8 games in the PL between 1st Dec - 1st Jan and wasn't able to offer what Oscar, Hazard and Willian give to the team.

Papers here are heavily linking him with Manchester United. Could be a good move if it happens for him.

I still cant imagine Chelsea letting him move to United when they can just wait until the summer and send him abroad. Sure he wouldnt be much of a direct threat to Chelsea this season in terms of inspiring United to beat them to the title (no chance at this stage) but he's one of those players that would probably score against them regularly in the coming seasons.

Would only happen if Rooney went the other way as well as money, dont know how i would feel about that in all honesty.

We should bid 40 million and get it over with...There is no point in wasting our time by bargaining and 40 million would be tempting for Mourhino considering he could bid for Costa........

Why would he sign for a sinking ship? I know he needs to play but a permanent move to United isn't the best option at the moment.

If he signs we will have a team good enough to compete for top 4 and there will be more signings in the summer....We can definitely afford to pay whatever he's earning at Chelsea and I don't think he has too many options....

United with Mata will have a good attacking options. Midfield and defense will be the major factor for United not going for 4th this season. Vidic is out and when he plays he can't even mark somebody. Smalling and Jones are injury prone. Rafael is a joke of a defender and Evra, well, Evra. And I'm not gonna start talking about midfield. a proper midfielder with Mata and United "might" have a shot on 4th.
