And if that leaves United stronger to return as serious title contenders next season, Jose will be ridiculed as a fool.

No he wouldn't! as Mata wont make them title contenders! United have to strengthen big time in the summer for that to happen!

He is no where near as good as Hazard and Oscar has been much better then him this season! counter attacking football doesn't suit him, in this system he is no where near one of Chelsea's best players.

If it weren't for Mata, Chelsea wouldn't have won a champions league...

I really hope our team learns a thing or two from this transfer.Chelsea sold a player (admittedly a great one) they didn't want for a huge pile of cash.I hope we do the same and not sell our players for peanuts..

But Mata could help attract "big time" targets. Certainly more than United would without him.

Anyway, will probably still not be enough to get United to top 4. :coffee:

good point. before this i would struggle to see how man utd could live up to the names being thrown around, still do, but this certainly helps. i can see them exploiting the premier league's smaller names now for the best talent, baines etc (not to see everton are a small team but you know what i mean)

It will help us big time when it comes to attracting top players...If this transfer goes through players will no longer see us as a sinking ship....and I can see Moyes trying to use Kagawa as bait to land Gundogan before the transfer window closes............United will be big draw for top players at smaller teams because they can get guarantee of being in the first XI.

I went on FM earlier and picked Chelsea, quickly sold Mata to united as needed funds, salah was transfer listed so I bought him in, funny thing was Liverpool wanted him, he he just thought I'd share

Gündogan won't be sold this window, no chance. Even if you put Kagawa on the table in summer, Real would put Sahin on the table, so it's clear what they would take. I reckon Mata will make United a bit more attractive for potential signings again, but if you don't make it to CL qualification, that won't be worth a thing. If you qualify, Mata will surely be of help. I still find Moyes' transfer list completely unrealistic, I don't see you getting players like Reus, Gündogan or Koke tbh.

To be honest, Moyes' target list is a joke - Reus, Gündogan, Koke, Vidal, Pogba, sounds like he just wrote down all quality flavour-of-the-month players he could think of. And then rumours about him "scouting" players like Reus - as if he had a choice to reject top class players that would be willnig to join. Mata or not, I can't see them getting anyone from that list, at least not the first three. Especially not if they still fail to qualify for CL, which could very well happen if Liverpool and Spurs stay strong. They are six points behind, that is not a piece of cake, especially since they already played Spurs twice. True about the smaller teams though, I'd say those would be the most realistic for United.

Bad move, short-sighted :coffee:

The big if is whether they can manage finishing in that top 4, obviously...I think Mata does not solve all their problems but he gives them an ideal weapon to make the most of their squad

If you assume Chelsea & City are going to stay in that top 4 and Arsenal has a good chance of doing the same (Plus, they're a massive 14 pts ahead of Moyes' side) then it comes down to Liverpool (For whom Mou hijacked their Salah reinforcement), Spurs & Everton...I could see them getting past 1, maybe even 2 of those 3 but not all 3...It'll be interesting nevertheless

I don't really think United will make it, especially now that they lost Carrick. Their CM/defence problems remain. Liverpool lost Lucas, but they have a decent run of fixtures, no European football to concentrate on and have been rather solid throughout the season bar a few slip-ups. Everton played United twice and are still 6 points ahead, that gives them a huge advantage. Have been rather solid with Sherwood as well. I expect Everton to crumble sooner or later, but they might as well not.

Could still happen though, who knows.

Rumours everywhere United want to buy Cabaye.

----------RvP-------
Mata----Rooney--Januzaj
----Fellaini-Cabaye---

Still not as good as Arsenals or City's. But still very very good.

Mourinho "Things are going in a good direction & we have allowed Juan to have the medical with United - I think sooner rather than later''

Might be stoke now instead of Cardiff :(

Yeah, Chelsea just tweeted those as well. I guess it's a done deal.

Mourinho on Mata: 'He is a fantastic player. In spite of not playing much for us, I still think he could be important for us.'
Mourinho: 'The offer we have received we feel is the right offer for the quality of player.'
Mourinho: 'It's a good move for Juan, it's good for the @premierleague, and the offer is the right offer.'
Mourinho: 'He was fantastic for Chelsea, and Chelsea were fantastic for him.'
