Karim Benzema

I think Laporta will manage to patch things up between Txiki and Eto. Or at least convince Pep into keeping him for another season. Market has gone crazy with Perez willing to splash crazy fees, City on the prowl and inflated prices of Ibra, Benzema and co.
I`m beginning to sound like a broken record but here it is again: I think the best thing would be to keep Eto and not go overboard with transfers.
If Bilbao would be be willing to sell Llorente for under 10 mil., I`d take him as our backup striker
IMO I see no reason why Eto'o should leave, but if for whatever reason no contract extension is not signed then we would be loosing on at least 30 million with which we can finance the purchase of his replacement.
Regardless, I think we should be looking for another top class striker instead of just a backup. I've already discussed the tactical merits of using a 1-2 attacking trident formation instead of our 2-1 formation in Your FC Barcelona squad for 2009/2010 & another merit to the 1-2 formation would be that in case of absence to one of our strikers, we wouldn't need to field any backups but simply to shift to a 1-2 formation again and use the 2nd XI CF instead of the bench warmer.

i like all that stuff a lot but i have seen a side of his personality and on pitch behaviour which has really put me off of him. if were gonna blow some dollar i would get him over ibra, gotta be looking longer term.

If your looking for long term replacement then surely 21 year old benzema would be a better option than 27 year old Ibrahimovich.
And probably cheaper too

If we offload Eto'o then we should sign both.

And the question that I have to ask every single time - what of Bojan then?
Our team would implode if we had the egos of Ibrahimovic and Benzema competing for one spot, and repressing the development of the beloved Catalan Bojan.
Not to mention that Benzema sucks.

The only difference is that Benzema will never become as good as Ibrahimovic. Of course he'll become a great player and for sure if he moves to United, but I don't think he has the same class as Ibra.

Bojan's done fantastic so far and shows his potential every time he steps out onto the pitch. Who says he won't become better than Benzema if we continue to give him opportunities? He's 18 years old and i along with the majority of other Barca fans look forward to tracking his development.

different types of player.

benzema may never have the skill of ibra, but I doubt ibra will ever have the penalty box predatorial skills of benzema (which are fucking magnificent).

He isn't a predator in the penalty box. Ruud, Trezegol is, Benzema isn't..

look at his goals.

whatever he's being used as by lyon, his finishing in the box is magnificently predatorial. either foot, he finds the corners so naturally.

it's a semantic issue though because I do see what you mean. and he's not like ruud, trez, inzaghi, etc. coz there's more to his game than that. but his finishing inside the box is massively predatory.

Well he only has just over a 1:3 goal ratio, which, for the league he plays in and for the team in which he plays is quite average. Especially since he's the little pet there.

I'm not talking about performances, I'm just talking about technique (and he's been played on the wing a lot by previous coaches).

technique is more important to me when looking at a new striker because as long as a striker has an aptitude for goals there's a good chance they will flourish in our side because of the number of chances we create.

Benzema has potential but some transfer fees people have been suggesting are simply ridiculous. I think he would score goals for Barca although he isn't the most prolific. I mean away to Racing he might not turn up. That can't haappen he needs to be a lot more consistent.
