Im not being contrary for the sake of it. I rate Mbappe highly but at the same time feel he is overhyped. I feel the same way about cr7 and even less so about Pogba who I rate lower.
Why Mbappe is overhyped:
- in my opinion he is not better than Messi at 19
- he didnt carry France but was part of a very good team on paper with a boring style.
- for ballon dor reasons they are pushing the wonderkid saves all narative hence why he keeps getting credit for team efforts or shit that matter little in the grand scheme of teams.
- right now he is being hailed as the best teen since Pele but thats not true.
Fenomeno, Messi and Rooney I rates higher at a young age.
You can be both world class and overhyped at the same time. It happens often in this time of style over substance.
I also like Mbappe since he seems a level headed kind guy who resemles Titi (my favourite player) and also slightly fenomeno in a way.
I think im just being real about it rather than a fanboy/hater.

my sentiment as well. love mbappe and i think he'll probably win the ballon d'or sooner than later, but i do think that he's a bit overhyped right now.

- Whether or not he's better than Messi at the same age is subjective, but he's more productive and more accomplished. And then there's the fact that he doesn't have to be as good as Messi to not be overhyped.
- I don't know that anyone's argued he carried France. I think most people understand that they have one of the more talented teams in the world. Still, Kylian was and remains one of their most decisive players.
- Every top player is praised for their individual performances within a team context. You'd think it were silly if someone tried downplaying Messi's brilliance because he plays for Barcelona.
- I've never seen anyone argue he's better than O Fenômeno. I've also never seen anyone argue Rooney was better than Kylian at the same age.
After what he's proven across all levels of football, the hype is warranted.

He won't ever top Messi/R9 for me, they had/have that aura around them which Mbappe doesn't currently but he may well end up winning more than them.. crazy to think but hes not even fucking 20 yet

To each his own I guess. Maybe its my fault as well in a way for reading the wrong media and forming opinions based on it rather than his actual skill.
I honestly hope the kid succeeds though and wish he would play for us which is highly unlikely at this points.

He scored against Liverpool... Though he wasn't great overall I'll admit. Of course no one can be brilliant every game. Personally I'd love Mbappe here. Though in terms of potential he's way off Messi imo.

mbappe scored in many big games and you can't score in every big game (still his track record vs big teams is very impressive when he's not even 20 yet). Messi and Ronaldo also went missing in some big games.
The best young talent right now without question. No point thinking about him at Barcelona because he would not have got a chance in his best position. Valverde would of shoehorned him into that AMR position where he is more limited.
More of an Henry, Hazard, Luis Suarez (think how highly rated Hazard was at 17/18) level talent than Messi level, which is nothing to complain about as they are among the elite in their positions.
And don't bring up the World Cup, Giroud has one of them too.
