You think Messi was offside by law and officials got it wrong?

The officials got it correct and they checked for it and has happened before.

He doesn't know the rules. The rules say you have to influence the play to get called offside. Messi has to do something to make the defender react and clear the ball. He does nothing. Not offside.

It's simply a poor clearance for the Celta player. That's all.

That's why you see time and time again a player refusing to play a ball because he knows he is offside. And the play is not stopped, precisely because the offside player is refusing to take part in the action.

You seek the FIFA manual when it suits you but then just try to laugh off rules when dont... better than claiming that a second yellow for Casimero is actually no advantage for Real but is for Barca and other teams.

Pretty happy to admit when there are clear problems with rules being applied. I'd say this is offside, not necessarily based on the rulebook. Pass is intended for him and they're often called based on that. If it's not offside based on just the fact that he doesn't make it to the pass then fair enough.

I'd say Casemiro not getting cards has problems in the immediate, but is an advantage long term. If Real keep pretending he's not a liability and let him do what he does week in week out unpunished without getting a competitor who's more responsible, it's with benefits for title race for Real's opponents.

The rule book is what matters if claiming Barca got advantage through wrong call.

Casimero and what he gets away with benefits Real and even then that is outwith the argument of these being incorrect calls.

So this guy is actually saying that any player that is behind the line of the defenders at a moment in time can be called offside, whether or not he shows any intent in playing the ball.

Man that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard on this forum...

In about 30% of all goals scored from open play there is at least 1 player that is offside and doesn't take part in the action.

Offside offence

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or
interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
*The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

or
gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has:
rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent
been deliberately saved by any opponent
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.

I think the emphasis is pretty clear. CLEARLY atemtps to play the ball or interfere with the play.

Wolfe would have a point if Messi moves in the direction of the ball and this is what determines the Celta player to clear it. He is not, and that is why it's not offside.

We could have really used the ref's help today in a game we played Meh in, but hey Guess only "white jersey's matter"
