For us, playing Madrid far more often in CL has no downslide. For Madrid, it does. They are the ones that do great vs other European teams and have problems dealing with Barca's football in h2h duels, while Barcelona seems to deal with Madrid's football and suffer against EPL and Bundesliga sides having more intensity.

This is the reason why Flick can be gold for us. We are upping our output in our weak areas for the first time, and in the most serious manner, since Pep.

Dont forget Rory dude between the 3 years they had the beast of cl, the man who scored hattricks against Bayern and Atletico for fun, Simeone cant sleep because of this guy, i would rather say we were lucky that we didnt meet them....

@Messigician quote my post so rory dude can read it 💯🔥

You mean the guy who was 0 goals in 5 CL KO games v Barca in 2 CL semis and 1 CL final and got dunked on by Messi?

And even missed a crucial penalty

@Andresito You really going to make me keep giving this guy the beatdown?

The key to match-up issues is being press-resistant. Once you get this quality, you become a real force. After Pep, the team lost this edge and now we're getting it back, albeit with a different approach.

Under Pep, the team was press-resistant in the manner that it was so scary to press, nobody had the guts to even attempt and do it since it was too intimidating.

Under Flick, teams, so far at least, have the guts to press us, but are facing huge issues at the back from doing so. So the question that arises is if teams will start growing weary of pressing Flick's team and look for other, more defensive options, or they will still do it because we are still somewhat shaky at the back and running on very fine margins.

Madrid is press resistant. Despite people saying they are lucky in CL or whatnot, the truth is they are robust and can usually take whatever pressure the teams from Bundesliga and EPL can put on them.

What they can't do is press much themselves, and this is the reason they are vulnerable vs teams like Barcelona. With Barcelona, if you let them play, they can kill you.

More than tactics or style, it's a mentality issue IMO.

We basically beat them down in their stadium every other year. That's a lot of mental scar tissue for them and no fear for us.

It's a mentality issue on part. It's also a footballing issue. Other teams can only dream of having the technical level of Barcelona. That's a hinderance when facing Madrid.

Nobody can pull off the string of passes we can in midfield. Not even City. They have been trying to import it, but it's not quite the same.

I have the feeling often in Clasicos that we are just a bit too technical for Madrid to really put us on the ropes. Not always, but in a good state, we have that peace of mind on the ball that is seriously bothering them. They are too conservative to press like mad men. With other teams, you can always rely on likes of Dortmund, Liverpool, or even Bayern to give the ball away gratuitously. That's when Madrid can really box you in.

Bernabeu games are always intense. In previous eras Benzemas and Higuains had mindblowing misses as well. Very few El Clasicos in my memory where I wouldn't think Real could have scored at least on couple of occasions.

Last night first half was no different, but second one felt like watching the 2-6 game in 2009. A point in time when Pep's Barca were the underdogs in big matches. Flick's physical work was evident.

Noone gives a fuck about Xavi's football and apologists claiming Flick has a better squad.

After we let go several starters and got one signing (which played 3-4 matches only) while handling unprecedented amount of injuries.

All the while ignoring the most obvious reason is Flick making players look better simply because he knows what he is doing.

Aye.. famous reason is Lamine suddenly 5 levels better in 3 months. Must be reason for Lewa too. He also matured, oh, Inigo as well.

Too easy to dismantle Xavi trolls.

Pains me to acknowledge it but FDJ & Olmo had pivotal impact

Criticism of our style is fair since there is little control as reality is that our goals were beating the offside trap while defensively it was by preventing RM from beating our high line. We do it better but the margins are small. Still things to improve

Amazing how much Vasquez, Vini & Militao get away with before a booking
