We can't afford to keep him.

There's no way he agrees to a 50% salary reduction if he knows he can get better elsewhere. Even with a 50% salary reduction, he's going to get 25m a year.... and that doesn't include his bonuses. So, we could end up paying him 50m plus a year in any case. Besides, our team isn't good enough..... and won't be for years. The only way he stays if he can't be bothered to move due to his age. That won't be a good thing..... simply because he'll probably play with less motivation.

All the money we could have potentially saved by letting him go in the summer. That would have helped the club in the long run. We're now struggling to pay salaries, and we're close to bankruptcy.
